Bought LeMans and watched it last night

After hearing you guys say that its was the best car movie ever I bought the DVD and watched it last night.

Great race scenes, horrible movie if you could call it a movie. Ten lines of dialog and absolutey no plot to speak of. More of a weird french silent movie.

It would be fun to watch on the big screen but a long 1:25 at home.

If you want to see alot of very sweet Porsches it cool to watch.

I dig it because it is such a 'period' piece

Music, opening shots with the headlights and sounds are pure 70s

It's all about the cars man. The dialog just gets in the way.

How much more dialog do you need?

Funny I just got the DVD also...
Yeah it is a little weird with so little dialog but I like it, then again I watch independent film, foreign movies, art flicks, etc.

I actually thought it was pretty cool the way they set up all the relationships without spoon feeding us every detail. Especially the thing going on with Steve and the girl with out any gratuitous sex. Kind of made me think how modern movies are written for five year olds, now it seems everyone wants to walk into a movie theater and put there brain on hold.

Although it is definitely not a movie for everybody, if your not a car nut furgitaboutit...

Oh yeah it just so happened I got mine in the mails the day they were showing live Lemans coverage on speed. Got home from work, watch two hours of live Lemans, speed then cut for two hours of whatever programing, popped in the DVD and had dinner, then went back to speed channel for two more hours of Lemans. Hoo boy am I a sicko! (I did fall asleep on the couch to-wards the end of that session.

Oh yeah, I don't suppose all the gratuitous Porsche footage has anything to do with the high praise the movie gets from this board.

Hey did they really crash 917's to make the movie?

If I remember correctly they crashed other cars with 917 style bodies on them.

I did love the cars and the sounds. But I would classify it more as a fake euro documentary than a movie. Just not what I expected out of McQueen. He is still the man.

That movie is only good once. On the topic of porsche movies - "No Mans Land" with Charlie Sheen is vastly superior.

Watching 30+ yr old race cars traveling around a track with basically no plot does not equal a riveting MOVIE to me but hey to each his own.

I myself would rather watch the informative Classic Car TV shows anyday than trying to stay awake thru LeMans again.

The McQueen 917 crash was a Lola T-70 with a 917 body. The Ferrari through the billboard crash was a Ferrari-skinned Lola. Apparently T-70s were plentiful back then.

The first lap is the highlight of the movie to me.

Jo Siffert was in the movie, and I heard he made a bundle renting some of the race cars to the production company.

Totally agree. About once a month is about what I need. If you ever tire of a Porsche 917 driving around Le Mans, then buy a frigging Chrysler...

Vic Elford. One of the greats. If you need to know more, Google the man.
