Now when you stop your hands from moving and go into the void one can start to descern the the difference between the 2 motives.

tabs 06-27-2005 12:49 PM

Souk has obviousily given the subject thought and has found meaning in Nizesches quotes.....but feels that Nizesche can say it better for him...

MotoSook 06-27-2005 12:53 PM

Of all people, I surely didn't expect Tabs to understand me :D

But seriously, work a little charity into your list of things to do -- expecially hands-on stuff like volunteering. it helps you see yourself in relation to other people and gives you something more nearly pure than 'having stuff.'

Nothing wrong with having stuff, but it doesn't make you a better person like, well, like simply being a better person.

I second this suggestion as well. I spent three years voluteering at a shelter for battered women. The women had group therapy sessions twice a week for a couple hours, and they had a few employees plus a few volunteers taking care of the kids aged up to 12. I guess it's hard to quantify how this affected me, but I felt I was doing a good thing, and I think it helped make me a better person.

There are more opportunities to volunteer then there are people to fill them. So you can pick something that feels good to you.

This stuff has become like childs play to me....with what you Boyz write I can get right into your brains and see the how and why of what your doing...

I am not going to say that this ability HASN'T bin hard won, because it has taken years of toil in the mines of my soul to come by it...but suddenly it is like coming over the hill and seeing this vast valley below....it also doesn't make the cirumstances of my life any easier, it jsut makes maneuerving around simpler... I would also say just how amazed I am that I have this ability...

Now if you want to talk about achievement or attainment of a goal this is it....and the attainment is quite different than or more than I ever thought it would be at the onset of the journey...at the onset of this journey I realized I knew less than nothing about human nature, emotions motivations etc....and I relentlessly set out to put the pieces to together, with almost singleminded determination.... because I realized peace of mind was worth more than all the Gold in the world heaped high..

You're all a bunch of girls. What's with this "I don't feel complete" crap?

You've been watching too much Oprah.

finally, someone willing to take the bull by the horns and tell it like it is :D

I don't think Terry is just talking about material goals. I think he's just reporting being goal-oriented. I myself am not much of a TV watcher. I like to have a tool in my hand. That's not only normal, that's good. It's the opposite of the THC syndrome thing where a guy's head is in the clouds and as a consequence, everything is always okay and it's time to relax. That's a recipe for getting nowhere. Terry's approach is a recipe for progress, assuming those energies are focused deliberately and properly.

And I'd agree with the folks here who are suggesting volunteerism and the like. It's certainly not a way to amass financial wealth, but it's a way to be far richer than 99.9% of folks who have tons of money.

Hey Moses....your my audience Buddy....your one of the ones I directed my last post to.....

MotoSook 06-27-2005 01:28 PM

What's Oprah?

tabs 06-27-2005 01:32 PM

The question for your Superman is can you just sit in a chair and veg for a week without going stir crazy....if you can then your wrench in hand isn't driven to get "somewhere"...it has purpose...

tabs 06-27-2005 01:34 PM

And we come to Moses...with his proffession he was forced to take some classes on human nature...but the question is does he just understand intellectually what I'm saying or does he know it in his heart...

tabs 06-27-2005 01:36 PM

Believe me when I tell you the Subjective is as real as the Objective...

Thanks, Tabby. I think. I just don't sit still very well. I don't sit through a whole movie, except rarely. It's not that I need to get something done. I wish I were that goal-driven. I just move all the time. I'm relatively average height, I eat fast food and ice cream like it's going to be unavailable tomorrow, don't exercise, and I weigh 174#. I'm the guy you want to invite to your house for a beer when you're starting a roofing project. I honestly feel disappointment when someone tells me about the big house improvement project they worked on during the weekend, and didn't invite me. I really don't act my age.

Tabdulah! If understand anything, I understand pain. Broken bodies. Broken hearts. I think I know you pretty well, friend.

tabs 06-27-2005 02:17 PM

Moses you have pathos....start asking why it works the way it does, it really is the flip side of the bologist knowing the how and why a human body works the way it does...

Super honesty and humility says it about U...
