Shaft drive and sealed differentials are a huge advantage on anything other than a dedicated track. Parts support is second to none and the aftermarket is huge. Associated also provides a wealth of set-up information that most others don't.
It was the sealed diff's and the shaft drive that made me go for the RS4 over the Traxxis Nitro 4-Tec. I just didn't like the idea of getting a pebble in the belts. Granted, the 4-Tec was twice as fast out of the box, but the RS4 can match it with a 2 speed and some other mods.

I'll have to check out that R4, as I do like my RS4.

I have always liked HPI products. Our first cars were Super Nitro RS4's because there was a spec class running for them locally. It has since kind of died out around here and we never see classes for the old Supers any more. It's too bad; they are great first gas cars and easier to drive well than the smaller 1/10 sedans. The belts were the only down side. Belts are great for 1/8th because no one in their right mind runs one outside of a track, but I bet some one could sell a lot of shaft drive 1/8th cars.

You kidding me? 100mph Serpent 1/8th would be a blast in my cul-de-sac
