no wonder people think Porsche drivers are snobs when there's list of how to salute other Porsche drivers based on the type , let alone year of Porsche the other one has.

1- 78-89 911 Ignored. Wannabe 993/930/early 911/356 drivers
2- 90-98 911 No wave. Cars are too new, owners probably have car for status, comfort. 3- 74-77 911 No wave. Probably 912E's anyway 4- 65-73. No wave. Already waved to death by 78-89 suckups. 5- All others. No wave, because waving at strangers is weird. Doug |

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1121632666.jpg sold out, lost its vision, abandoned its principles, and cashed in on a fad, and a worthless retarded one at that. My car is cheapened not monetarily, but in principle. It is now the product of a company that has sacrificed its integrity to build a worthless vehicle instead of adhering to its proud traditions. What do you think this fellow would say if someone told him his beloved company is now pandering to bean counters and building SUV's? Do you think he would have allowed it? Could you really look him in the eye and tell him you're not ashamed? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1121635085.jpg ianc |
Make'em any way you want. I'm still out.
This thread reminds me of a guy I saw at pool league the other night wearing a Special Olympics t-shirt. I just wondered which event he had been entered in. |
Two simple rules for me:
Air-cooled gets a flash and a thumbs up. Water cooled gets nothing unless they initiate |
i know that i would have appreciated a wave from the drivers of 2 996s and 1 boxter in a well to do walnut creek suburb when i was stranded on the side of the road in my '68.
..I./ |
As a representative of the '64-68 community I would like to add:
1) SWB's are so rare by the time you see one from the front and can make out the longer horn grills, it's either too late to wave, or the car has rusted away; 2) By the time you see one from the side, and notice the tiny gap between the torsion tube cover and the wheel arch, it's too late to wave, or rust has begun to form; 3) By the time you see one from the back, and see the angled "911" script in gold, or the split engine lid grille, it's too late to wave, and the car is gone in a haze of Weber smoke. Therefore, if you find yourself in a situation where SWB's are likely to be encountered, which is likely to be (a) a concours or the parade; or (b) outside of a rust removal/restoration shop, please do the following. a) Boxster and 996/7 owners, please put your beer in the cupholder and salute; b) 930 owners, please stop pointing at the boost gauge and wave; c) 2.7 owners, please stop pointing at the oil temperature gauge and wave;and d) 356 owners, please take your finger off the page of the NLA reproduction parts catalog, and wave to those whose parts are TRULY NLA! |
This is to much! Very entertaining!! Back to original list shouldnt 78-89 be in a group? 89 Being last year of the "bumper"?
1- 356's - get a Wave and Salute 2- 67-73 911's get Two Thumbs Up 3- '74-77 911's get a Wave of Respect or Sympathy (your choice) 4- '78-83 911s get the secret SCWDP Handshake 5- 84-89 911's get an Enthusiastic Wave 6- '90-'98 911's get a cupped hand "miss america" wave 7- 914's get a Knowing Smile and a Nod 8- 924, 928, 944, 968 get Eye Contact and a Nod 9- Boxsters get a wave only if they wave first 10- '99-05 911's - see Boxster 11- Cayenne owners get a raised eyebrow 12- "Special" Porsches (anything not covered previously), use your best judgment Just my thoughts will be interested to see how it ends up |
After getting a glare from a red 996 Turbo yesterday when I gave him a friendly wave, well, no more waving at any modern Porsche painted in red or yellow for me, eps. of the Turbo variety.
(A GT3 is different so I'll still wave at a red or yellow GT 3......) What is it with these people? Get a BMW instead next time is what I would like to say to them !!! |
I agree most of the guys that bought 996's seem to have been first time buyers and don't know the code of comraderie that comes with Porsche ownership.

Gassy,
Probably cannot make the Potter's Picnic on Sunday since it is far North Suburbs and my wife won't let me out for more than an hour. Put me down for five shirts (3medium 2 large). contact me and I will send Paypal. |
Man, this shirt is just too much. I can only imagine wearing it to the grocery store and giving people confirmation that Porsche owners really are pricks.

What's the diff between an air cooled Porsche and a Porcupine????
Nothing, they are BOTH endangered...... 914s rule the AX..... http://www.914club.com/bbs2/uploads/av-5.jpg |
I've gotten more 'waves' 'nods' and horn-honks from 911s while driving my 914 than anyone could ever expect. I even had a guy in a 356 turn around and chase me so he could look it over.
I don't think the 914 gets the respect it's due in a lot of circles... |
As a proud owner of a Really fast 1970 914-4 I can second what DARK BEER said.
If you are judging a 914 from the outside and have never driven one at the limit on a road course of ANY Autocross well you just are missing out. By the way to the Black 05 Carrera S who showed up to race at SCCA CENLA Night event. Sorry about spanking your A$$ so baddly. Maybe you shoulda waved. I helped tech your car as you snubbed the teener. |
Here's where I am so far...let me know.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1121698938.jpg
|
if you've ever driven a 914... you'd get it... you'd understand... I've driven a 911, 924,and a 944... and liked them all, BUT the 914 is a truly different animal, I've never seen or heard of a car that handles like a 914... though many have tried to duplicate the looks and handling...
Zois said it best: 914s rule the AX..... if you need more racing herticage than that... does "LeMans" mean anything? btw, 914s get props from more than the P-Car crowd |

Tail dragger drool. |
Gassy,
I like it. Very classy. Too bad the original got watered down, but it will probably play better this way. Got to be Politically Correct. Don't want this coming back to haunt me if I run for office. Hard enough to keep the hooker parties out of the papers. Glenn |
Yes. Please use the Porsche crest on your t-shirts. We'll all give you a nod and a smile when you are selling your precious little car to pay for your legal bills.
:D |
Ohhhh, gud one Paul....

Tail draggers start thier own clubs and do DE's. When approached to join the fun it is by invitation only. SCCA rules Run what ya brung and let the timer sort it out. |
Is there a Euro version? I think 77's deserve more than a wave of sympathy. :)

I might add that the 914 owners are at least all down to earth and friendly, they can keep their shirt, I wont be able to read it from my rear view mirror anyway as I pass them all by. Let them read my 914Club sticker on my back window since that is all they will see.

A list of whom you're supposed to wave at or not? Geez, I never knew there was a "pecking order" for Porsches. Water cooled or not, they are built for the person who wants to be a driver rather than a passenger.
I am also a part of the Corvette community, where enthusiasts are taught to wave at all Corvettes, and encourage first time owners to do the same. After all, they may not be snobs who bought their car just to be seen in it... they may simply be unaware of the Wave tradition. I wave at all Porsches I see, whenever I'm driving the 911 or the Vette. I wave at Corvettes also, as well as any older sports car that I happen to see (there are MG's and Austin-Healeys, etc. in my neighborhood). And I'll be sure to wave once I get Babydoll (a '74 914 2.0) back on the road. Call it ugly if you want, but the 914 is an amazing car in the twisties. Too bad it never got much respect, but it's really sad that it doesn't get respect within the Porsche community. |
This thread is cracking me up! I can't believe people are getting their panties in a bunch over whether their car is "dissed" in the original humorous post. That said, Glenn I appreciated your humourous post.SmileWavy

Heck, even the "lowly" 914 performs better than the 928 if you are talking about quick transitions. Which is, as my "esteemed" 914 colleagues have just pointed out, what autoX is all about. A buddy of mine had a 94 (?) 928 GT. Heckuva car. Got up and moved. Sailed through long sweepers very nicely. Made lovely V8 racket while doing so. Did not like rapid changes of direction, and felt (and was!) very heavy compared to my 914. Quote:

...Oh, I agree with the "sympathy wave" for the middies. Mostly because they've spent a whole ton of time and money eliminating the original problems of the US-spec 75-77 cars. (Especially the CA-spec ones!) ...Come to think of it, the "sympathy wave" is not inappropriate for 914s, too! Their owners fight rust, cracking cylinder heads, funky analog-electronic fuel injection, and the "Not A Real Porsche" attitude from those who drive other Porsches. If that doesn't deserve sympathy, I don't know what does!! --DD |

I like the design, but I would rather see this version of the "waves" 1- 356's get a Wave and Salute 2- 67-73 911's get Two Thumbs Up 3- '74-77 911's get a Wave of Respect or Sympathy (your choice) 4- '78-83 911s get the secret SCWDP Handshake 5- 84-98 911's get an Enthusiastic Wave 6- 914's get a Knowing Smile and a Nod 7- 924, 928, 944, 968 get Eye Contact and a Nod 8- Boxsters get a wave only if they wave first 9- '99-05 911's - see Boxster 10- Cayenne owners get a raised eyebrow 11- "Special" Porsches (anything not covered previously), use your best judgment And, don't let the lawyers among the group give you a hard time about the legality of using the logo. Yes, we are violating the rightful use of copyright (unless we attribute the logo and ownership to Porsche North America) but do you really think that Porsche will chase us for 20 T-Shirts? Naaaah. Just don't go to the next Parade with a car full of 100 in a variety of sizes. larry |

OK, OK, I didn't name the car. It belongs to a friend. A female friend. And she declared that it would be forever known as "Babydoll." |
Mid-Years "I't worth it."
We have a campaign (non city government sanctioned) in Houston called Houston its Worth It.
It gives a list of afflictions like The Heat The Humidity The Hurricanes The Flying Cockroaches And at the bottom it says Houston, its Worth It. http://www.houstonitsworthit.com/Afflictions_tee/afflictions.html Maybe the mid-years (or any Porsche group) can start one: The pulled head studs The rust The environment saving features The magnesium engine The heat Drive a 911 mid year! Its Worth It! |
You guys are a piece of work, gender, car type etc.
People with this type of morals to judge others on their posessions is shallow and petty. Do all the owners of the type of cars allowed for a wave want to be part of a special club? Did they buy their car because *you* may approve of them? Obviously that is why you bought yours. 914's are for me, I love them and will always have one. That is my taste and if you care or don't doesn't do squat for me. You like your cars, great. If you are an enthusiast you deserve a wave. I like all Porsches, all of them. Put me down for one of your shirts so I can have something to wipe my ass with. Y'all need to grow up. |
