i got a 911, and i dig the 914's and above is proof that 914's are serious cars that can do a 911 in on a serious track...

'nough said , mmmmmkaaay?

Ryssa 07-19-2005 07:35 AM

I registered just to say "Ouch". Do you really think that all women Porsche owners are stuck up? You may have a point when it comes to the newer more expensive models, but that is so not true of the older Porsche "women" owners. Granted, I do sometimes drive around with my head up my butt, but I'm not always like that.

Also, I don't think the 914 is ugly at all. Granted, some are butt ugly, but mine's not.

Ooooohhh, neither is the black one several posts up...coooolll.

glenndeweirdt 07-19-2005 08:55 AM

Ryssa,
Please accept my apology for any innacuracies in my statement regarding females in Porsches. We knuckle dragging fellows that haunt the Pelican Parts BBS are not used to the presence of real women on the board.

I'm going to need a cheat sheet for wave protocol for when I'm driving my Boxster and 914. I always thought 914 protocol was a headlight wink and two fists shot up into the air? Boxster is a sheepish glance to see if the real porsche will even recognize you as an enthusiast Hey what about Porsche SUV's? I always get the weirdest looks when I wave to at a Porsche SUV driver. And what will protocol for the Cayman be?

SweetE 07-19-2005 09:22 AM

Soo, I guess you would need to put the 912's in the "Special" Porsche's category, since from most of this conversation - they don't seem to exist:cool:
From a 912 owner, I wave to all of you SmileWavy

Carl83911 07-19-2005 09:28 AM

Re: your 996. Is this still consitered a 911 series car?

Because of the change to the headlights, the last true 911 is the 993. You'll still get a nod though.

Trade the 996 for a 997 and you will get the waves, nods and the occassional F' Yeah!!!... and a salute at that.

The 997 brings back the 911 style with the rounded headlights. Although water cooled, It may belong in another category. other than 911's (air-cooled)

Root_Werks 07-19-2005 09:32 AM

I try to wave at pretty much any Porsche older than the mid 90's. Everything else after that looks like a honduh 2000 or MR2 Spyder or pretty much any other newer sports car.

Regardless of model, the older the Porsche, the bigger the wave for keeping such a rusty, oil leaking car on the road to begin with. SmileWavy

mikester 07-19-2005 09:34 AM

The only prop response to the sighting of a 914 is to hand them a can of metal prep and por-15.

A special note about women in Porsche's: It is probably their boyfriend's, or they are a dyke, or they are stuck up and won't wave back anyway, or they will think you are hitting on them and reject you (unless you look like Lorenzo Llamas or other movie star), so NEVER wave to a woman in a Porsche unless she is your sister, mom, coworker, concubine, paramour, or neighbor.
btw, this is totally out of line, and not a joke at all.

**** you, buddy.

i'm struck by what a generally 'so nice' thread this is..so necessary, too. lots of irritation being openly expressed at one another, based solely on our choice of porsche. clearly it has done an excellent job of delineating those of us who generally 'enjoy geeting along' with those who are simply *******s..both sides know to which group we belong and have unapologetically spoken our mind to that affect. to some, offending people anonymously is always good fun, some of us take some measure of offense to it. i doubt anyone here would actually come to blows over any of these comments, but i think overall it's been a black eye to the community to see it played out so publicly on our forum. if we needed a reality check to remind ourselves of our basic 'humanity' and the fact that our subtle intolerances are not simply 'tongue and cheek', but often reflect our true attitudes were we all in the 'same room together'..one needs look no further than this thread. being the idealist that i am about people, i lose an iq point every time i read an update of this thread only to catch the latest anonymous insult. don't get me wrong..there's been plenty of hilarious banter on the board over the years, but this one borders on having that edge that really wants to raise a nose up on each other. i personally don't care for that, but it's my right to say so.

SirAndy 07-19-2005 10:11 AM

alright. here's what i'm gonna do ...

at the next GGR AX at Candlestick (AX#7, Sat Sep 17), i'll offer *anybody* a free ride in my 914.
not as a passanger, but as a DRIVER.
you drive it for one run!

this is a serious offer. if you've never driven a 914, this is your chance!
just because i'm such a nice guy ...

BTW: the car is my daily driver. nothing special, really. warmed over 2.0L /4-banger ...

ianc 07-19-2005 10:16 AM

I'll take that drive.

Of course I already love 914's so that may disqualify me... ;)

This is my vote for a t-shirt.

All the cars are great. I love everyone I've ever owned. I wave at any pre-90, and happily return the wave of post-90 owners. As an ex-356 owner, I would note the flash preceded the wave.

Andyrew 07-19-2005 11:31 AM

Oh on topic.

As for the wave?

I wave and flash my lights to any P car I come across. Sometimes vw's as well.

Wether im driving the 914, or either of the 944 turbo's.

sammyg2 07-19-2005 11:42 AM

I wonder how many Ferrari, Corvette and mustang boards are posting links to this thread and laughing at the stupid Porsche owners.

I'd rather have herculiner on my hootus than be associated with some of these posts.

Where's that picture about arguing on the internet when you need it?

Wow your're brave! .some bit$hy aloof Tiptronic Boxster owner might take you up on that offer. Worse yet there might be the rare and dreaded 1st gear corner somewhere on that course.

I dont think I have had such a good laugh over a thread in a long time!

Joe Bob 07-19-2005 12:04 PM

Stirring the pot.....front shirt of a 914 AX shirt.

gliderguy 07-19-2005 12:06 PM

The T-shirt, not taken to heart is very humorous. I have a 76 911s with CIS issues, no big deal, pain in the ass, but when she is on she is on. I dont take offense to the sympathy wave. Put me down for a shirt! One thing is for sure we all need to check into rehab for obsessive compulsive disorder treatment. Second thought the heck with rehab I am going to go mess with air fuel mix instead.

Speaking as a Corvette guy... y'all would probably recognize the umbrage some Vette guys take when people driving their brand new C6 doesn't return "The Wave." Apparently we go through this with every new generation... somebody driving an older model gets all bent out of shape when somebody driving a newer model doesn't initiate the wave, or worse yet, fails to return the wave. A completely pointless flamewar always ensues. You get pissy people in every group, I suppose.

I wave at sports cars, give a thumbs-up to street rodders, and if the other driver doesn't acknowledge me, it ain't the end of my world. I've got other things to worry about.

I remember several years ago, Lyressa was riding shotgun in my 914 for a little while after a fun run up Mulholland. I didn't ignore her, but I don't think I waved ;)

I guess since I own a 914, that must make me a pretentious, stuck up b!tchy dyke. Plus it means I have a HUGE penis?!?!

sammyg2 07-19-2005 02:24 PM

Jenny, you should have told me all that five years ago when I was flirting with you (before your boyfriend). Does he know about your secret?

450knotOffice 07-19-2005 02:36 PM

Ryan, I believe you were one of the first to take offense on this string. Your post certainly wasn't light hearted.

Hmmmm, I'm thinking hermaphrodite! Or possibly she-male. Counseling will help with the confusion.:D

J P Stein 07-19-2005 03:05 PM

Since my car is about 1/3 914, 1/3 911, & 1/3 aftermarket,
I am rabidly ambivalent about this whole thread....
I even like Vettes.....I think it's fiberglass envy.

The only thing I agree with myself on is the 914 is an ULF.

yes, i was one of the first. i haven't responded much to having mid-year cars dissed on her in a couple of years and indicated as much..struck me as ignorant at the moment that a t-shirt ought to be made that suggests whose cars deserve an approving look or not. this thread is populated with those who agree and those who don't. i could have tempered my initial reply in retrospect and for those who think i started a flame war, my apologies. in the end, it's just my opionion on a subject which as a joke on this board has just grown old. i can take a joke as well as anyone..if i haven't shown sufficient self-effacing humor on a recent thread post of mine then nobody has. anyway, nobody has to care and nobody has to wonder where i stand on others going through trouble to humble another member's source of pride.

As a 912, 911, 914-6 previous owner, all I can do is laugh at the 911 "elite" who pay well over what the cars are worth, pay more than the budget of some Third World countries in annual maintanence, and slide around, or even worse - fishtail - whenever it rains........Then you'll get a snicker and a nod from me in my 944 when I'm pushing around bends in the rain at speeds you can only imagine when you drive a 911 LOL!!!
