Who wants T-shirts? Since I started this mess I will front the cost to have 20 or so printed if there is any demand. Let me know.

Glenn:

Give me a ballpark cost, tell me you'll use a high quality shirt (Beefy-T or the equivalent) and tell me the basic design. (List of the 10 plus a Porsche crest or the like) and I'll give you my commitment and my PayPal payment.

Because it is a fundamentally flawed vehicle for porsche to have built on so many levels, and it made absolutely no sense.
Flawed? Each to their own opinions Porsche has benefited at the bottom line from the unit volume contributed by the Cayenne. Porsche is too big to be a "boutique" sports car manufacturer, and is faced with some large corporate competition. Without venturing into new markets, they are in danger of getting swallowed up. When the vehicle was released, it was also stated there would be a six banger coming down the pike.

With weak dollar, less demand for SUV's overal, inventory is high, as are other vehicles in this sector. Other manufacturers as well. Do you think GM and now Ford are offering their "employee discounts" because sales are robust?

My point and opinion originally was that Cayennes don't need to be slighted because posters don't agree with the philosophy. I stand by my statement that they've contributed to Porsche getting back into prototype racing. As SUVs go, they certainly are a Porsche.

Porsche is doing something right, they made a BOATLOAD of money last year.

PS- There were a lot of douchebags driving 930's in the 80's...

They made a boatload of money last year?

They made boatloads of money before the Cayenne was made. In fact, before the Cayenne they already were the most profitable car company on the planet.

At this point, I suppose, everything about the Cayenne is an opinion or prediction. The market will provide the definitive answer in the next 3-5 years.

Anyways, this tread has gotten off track. It's not about the Cayenne. It's about how much the 74-77 911s suck.

Gassy,
What do you think for costs? I will front the first 20 shirts. Heck even if they don't sell I have T's for the next few years.

Wish I would have bought more SCWDP shirts when they came out a few years ago!

Glenn, I can get these T-shirts made for $10, each, shipping included. I'd be happy to work on the design. I'd post it here before making the shirts. They are high quality, 100% pre shrunk cotton Alore t-shirts. They are full cut--so they run bigger than normal cheap t shirts. The image would be a heat transfer, not silk screened (which is much more expensive). No, they're not the ink jet crap iron ons. Should we go with the original 10 rules? It's up to you. PM me or respond here. I can make 1 shirt or 100, no price change. For ten bucks, shipping included, If people don't like them, they can use them for, I don't know, an oil rag or something.

Back to the "chicks" comment. My wife was the impetus for buying the 97C4S we have. It was her money, she will eventually be a better autocross driver than I am (as the instructors so gleefully tell me), and it was her lifetime dream.

So if you see my wife in a silver 993 you better wave and salute or she will drive you off the road!

Gassy,
Do you live in the Chicago area? I can front the cost for the first 20 T's if there is enough interest. Hell I may just buy a few for myself and wear 'em to local PCA stuff.

I'm in Elmhurst. Stone's throw away! You shouldn't have to front the cost--I think people will realize $10 ain't much...are you going to Potter's Picnic next Sunday?

Glenn,

I'm not all that worked up about it. But, you're wrong if you think us mid-year owners don't enjoy our cars as much as the sc/carrera guys do. I'd want a "sympathy wave" about as much as I'd want a "pity f**k", and that's not at all. So...if you post something like your wave rules and didn't think you'd get a response from the owners of the cars you "dis'd", you certainly didn't think it through very well.

My car runs great. I enjoy the thing immensely. Judging by the (minority) response on this thread, it appears other mid-year owners feel the same.

I begrudge no man his choice in toys. Live & let live I say! A little while ago I posted a reply standing up for Targa owners in a different thread, even though I personally don't care for the Targa. I think 914's look great. I just saw a pic of TRE's 914 and it's a beaut. I'd have that any day before a 996. Guess I really don't want to be a member of your club.

Count me out for a shirt.

Dan

yep..dis my car on here, no biggee..i've been a board member for 3 years and have certainly read my share of mid-year bs..but put your dis on a t-shirt and you can certainly kiss this white ass. okay, that about covers it for me. i guess this high school crap gets old..the overwhelming majority of this board's members enjoy a common love and interest in restoring, maintaining and driving or racing these cars, not our ****ing 'class' differences. enjoy your shirts, guys.

Seems to me that we could come up with "waves" that meet the needs of everyone and make the shirt more widely desired. I'm not into dissing, just enjoying.

Gassy - Maybe I'll see you at Potter's picnic. Haven't decided whether to go or not. This would be our first trip there.

How's this for the WAVE???

OK, I have done a bit of editing, changed the order to be chronological, and hope that I haven't offended anyone . . . LOL

1- 356's- get a wave and salute
2- Pre '74 911's - see 356’s
3- '74-77 911's get a wave of respect
4- '78-98 911's get an enthusiastic wave
5- 914's get a smile and a nod
6- 924, 928,944,968 get eye contact and a nod
7- Boxsters get a wave only if they wave first
8- '99-05 911's - see Boxster
9- Cayenne owners get a raised eyebrow
10- "special" Porsches (anything not covered previously)
Use your best judgement.

What about splitting up the 78 - 98 to separate the SC's from the rest of the air-cooled? They certainly have attitude (or is it the owners?), and it is a well respected car as a result of their longevity.

And for $10, I am definitely in.

I'll pay double if SC get their own category.

If you go Larry, say hi. It'll be nice to see you and Kermit again. (My room was next to yours down at Dayton).

Dan and Ryan,

Please note that I "dissed" the '99 and later owners (including myself) by putting them in the Boxster class that includes myriad secretaries and as my teen daughters would say "posers." This is a category that I put BELOW the '74-77 911s. In fact, one of the cars on my short list of "must have" Porsches is the '74 Carerra (since I can't afford a '73).

I intend to wear my T proudly to my local PCA functions. Should you gentlemen cross my path I will be the good-looking fellow in the coolest, funniest shirt on site!

Glenn
