no wonder people think Porsche drivers are snobs when there's list of how to salute other Porsche drivers based on the type , let alone year of Porsche the other one has.

1- 78-89 911 Ignored. Wannabe 993/930/early 911/356 drivers
2- 90-98 911 No wave. Cars are too new, owners probably have car for status, comfort.
3- 74-77 911 No wave. Probably 912E's anyway
4- 65-73. No wave. Already waved to death by 78-89 suckups.
5- All others. No wave, because waving at strangers is weird.

How does this give you a "sense of embarassment" and what possible effect could it have on the value of your car?
It gives me a sense of embarassment because the Porsche we all love and revere for its single-minded dedication to racing and sports cars in the past has, under the misguided influence of this foul creature:

sold out, lost its vision, abandoned its principles, and cashed in on a fad, and a worthless retarded one at that. My car is cheapened not monetarily, but in principle. It is now the product of a company that has sacrificed its integrity to build a worthless vehicle instead of adhering to its proud traditions.

What do you think this fellow would say if someone told him his beloved company is now pandering to bean counters and building SUV's? Do you think he would have allowed it? Could you really look him in the eye and tell him you're not ashamed?

Make'em any way you want. I'm still out.

This thread reminds me of a guy I saw at pool league the other night wearing a Special Olympics t-shirt. I just wondered which event he had been entered in.

Two simple rules for me:

Air-cooled gets a flash and a thumbs up.

Water cooled gets nothing unless they initiate

As a representative of the '64-68 community I would like to add:

1) SWB's are so rare by the time you see one from the front and can make out the longer horn grills, it's either too late to wave, or the car has rusted away;

2) By the time you see one from the side, and notice the tiny gap between the torsion tube cover and the wheel arch, it's too late to wave, or rust has begun to form;

3) By the time you see one from the back, and see the angled "911" script in gold, or the split engine lid grille, it's too late to wave, and the car is gone in a haze of Weber smoke.

Therefore, if you find yourself in a situation where SWB's are likely to be encountered, which is likely to be (a) a concours or the parade; or (b) outside of a rust removal/restoration shop, please do the following.

a) Boxster and 996/7 owners, please put your beer in the cupholder and salute;

b) 930 owners, please stop pointing at the boost gauge and wave;

c) 2.7 owners, please stop pointing at the oil temperature gauge and wave;and

d) 356 owners, please take your finger off the page of the NLA reproduction parts catalog, and wave to those whose parts are TRULY NLA!

After getting a glare from a red 996 Turbo yesterday when I gave him a friendly wave, well, no more waving at any modern Porsche painted in red or yellow for me, eps. of the Turbo variety.

(A GT3 is different so I'll still wave at a red or yellow GT 3......)

What is it with these people? Get a BMW instead next time is what I would like to say to them !!!

I agree most of the guys that bought 996's seem to have been first time buyers and don't know the code of comraderie that comes with Porsche ownership.

Man, this shirt is just too much. I can only imagine wearing it to the grocery store and giving people confirmation that Porsche owners really are pricks.

I've gotten more 'waves' 'nods' and horn-honks from 911s while driving my 914 than anyone could ever expect. I even had a guy in a 356 turn around and chase me so he could look it over.

I don't think the 914 gets the respect it's due in a lot of circles...

As a proud owner of a Really fast 1970 914-4 I can second what DARK BEER said.
If you are judging a 914 from the outside and have never driven one at the limit on a road course of ANY Autocross well you just are missing out.

By the way to the Black 05 Carrera S who showed up to race at SCCA CENLA Night event. Sorry about spanking your A$$ so baddly. Maybe you shoulda waved. I helped tech your car as you snubbed the teener.
