Who's Afraid of a little Mosquito!!!!

I was quietly reading a book and happened to glance over and catch this damn thing just clamped to the outside of the window pane. Biggest damn mosquito I've ever seen.

It wouldn't bother me so much but I'm allergic to them, I get swells when bitten so this one is a MONSTER!

From the size, I would think that was a male mosquito. If that's the case, you're relatively safe...

From Montana State University - Northern:

Only female mosquitoes feed on blood. The blood triggers ovarian activity, and after a few days she lays several hundred eggs. A few weeks later, the eggs hatch. Two or three days later, they become full adult mosquitoes. The male mosquito feeds on nectar from flowers.

if I'm not mistaken, that's actually a crane fly. we have plenty down here and our mosquitoes are only half that size. at least they feel like they are.

I think they eat mosquitos!

The mosquito is the most dangerous animal on the face of the earth.

Has killed more humans than any other organism (including man) on earth.

When I was hunting out of Kotzebue, Alaska, my buddy that lived there looked at me rather matter-of-factly one time and said "it's a five mosquito day". I asked him just what on Earth he was talking about. "Clap your hands" was all he said, so I did. "Now count 'em." Sure enough, there were about five mosquitos smashed in my palms. Purely at random; just clapping my hands as we stood their talking. A "bad day" is when you start approaching a "ten mosquito day"; five is apparently not so bad... right...

That is what is known here as a Jersey Mosquito. Harmless.

BTW, there are 150 species (out of a possible 3000) in North Amerca. Take your pick

Crane Fly...adults are harmless, the larve in great enough numbers will kill your lawn in the early spring (at least around here).
