"The 20cm-long, 3cm-wide stone object, which is dated to be about 28,000 years old, was buried in the famous Hohle Fels Cave near Ulm in the Swabian Jura."

Wow; 20cm. Weren't folks substantially smaller in stature back then? I think they're just trying to impress some one... Maybe we should make ours to scale - like 20 INCHES long. That ought to impress 'em in another 30,000 years.

"The prehistoric "tool" was reassembled from 14 fragments of siltstone."

"Tool"?? Some one is having too much fun with this.

"'In addition to being a symbolic representation of male genitalia, it was also at times used for knapping flints,' explained Professor Nicholas Conard, from the department of Early Prehistory and Quaternary Ecology, at Tübingen University."

Knapping flints... I would have never thought of that. At least it is a multi-use "tool". Kind of an early Swiss Army Knife or something.

Wow, I guess that is where the expression "carved in stone and heated over the fire" came from to describe a good rod.

"Female representations with highly accentuated sexual attributes are very well documented at many sites, but male representations are very, very rare," explained Professor Conard.
I have a couple questions or theories forming....................

1. Females carved self representaions in stone, the distortion of perspective is our evidence (see old thread).

2. Therefore we might use the same method of reasoning to determine who made the ancient phallus.

3. A female made the phallus - how it looked to her.

4. A male made the phallus - how it looked to him.

5. Who used the phallus once made?

6. Where there gay cave people, male and female? If so what kind of tools may they of used?

I had a good reply, but I don't want this thread to go that way. If you know what I mean.

It's a prank, some lonely archeologist thought it'd be funny to get a bunch of car nerds talking about cave people and dildos... never thought those two would go together, EVER.

Back in those days, wouldn't you think they were more concerned about survival and procreation than, umm... pleasure? I mean, come on, the guys carried around clubs and threw rocks.

i agree with bryan. too many sabre tooth tigers around to get jiggy with one's self. besides that thing is way to heavy for a cave lady to lug around in her wooly mammoth handbag.

Only a scientist would claim that a large penis made out of rock was made for knapping flints. Dildo, what's that? They didn't have soap operas back then, what did you think the cave women did while the men were out clubbing animals to death?
