We'll make millions! Be my partner....

and do all the research and design

But seriously....why in the fukc don't they make WiFi style video systems? You know for TV. The ability to watch my satellite and or DVDs anywhere my signal reaches...the garage, out by the hot tub, the bedroom, etc... all without running wires. I'd pay $400 for such a system at least...maybe more. What am I missing here? Broadcasting restrictions or something?

I am talking somethng "like" WiFi, it doesn't have to be that complicated actually.

Here is an idiots synopsis of what I mean.

At the output of my receiver I hook up to a trnsmitter that broadcasts on UHF or something so that all I have to do is tuneto channel 87 to watch what's on the main system.

Remember the VCR "Rabbit" ?

Problem with waht you want is that in order to carry all that info you'd need a very healthy pipeline. Not exactly what's used for a wireless router or such.

LOL, I have one

I really don't see why thios wont work. I have seen those wireless cameras that transmit to a preset UHF TV channel, so why can't I just change the input from that of the camera to that of what's coming out of my receiver (be it normal TV, satellite, dvd, whatever)?

I would not be terribly concerned about quality (unless horrid) as my theatre system is fo HQ viewing. But....being able to watch the NFL ticket in the garge while working on the car (without running more F'n wires) would be great!

I know there's a way to do this... I know a guy in Madison who has a server with a dozen or so TV cards, and he's able to watch tv remotely with it. If you could set that up on wifi, build a small mini-itx computer to receive and send to the TV (svideo), it could be pretty cool. Maybe $2k for the server system and $300 for each frontend.

Yes, I have that......now how do I get my programing from satellite in there? How about a DVD? Or Maybe a movie for the boy while we wrk on the tractor in the garage?

Right now my garage tv gets the 4 networks and that's it. This would be a simple device that transmitts via UHF whatever is on your main system to any TV in the are by tuning to channel X and you don't have to run ANY wires.

Say you're having a deck or pool party and want to watch the F1 race on Speed? Instead of running a cable to the deck or pool, you just tune to your personal UHF broadcast on channel X.

Look at the 3rd and 4th posts down... tv cards in one machine, using an xbox as a remote controller using ethernet.

Thanks Bryan, but that seems overly complex and each TV/computer would need a wireless NIC right?

Why can't I just broadcast a low strength tuneable signal? Illegal?

What are you saying, that's too geeky for you?!

Try this: http://www.northcountryradio.com/Kitpages/lptvx.htm
Quote:
This transmitter kit is for constructing a flea powered VHF TV transmitter designed for use within a home to interface video devices with TV receivers, by placing the signals on an unused channel in the lower part of the VHF band, CH2 to CH6. No connections are needed to the TV receiver and this is handy when using one of the older sets lacking direct line input jacks for video and audio. It is continuously tuneable from 54 to 88 MHz (VHF CH 2-6 ) and may be set to an unused TV channel in your area. It accepts standard NTSC video and audio signal levels furnished by most consumer video equipment, such as DVD players, VCRs and camcorders.

Probably illegal with out a license.
If strong enough you could cook your steak in the transmission path.

Actually, I have just the thing...................................

Not really, those are basically "The Rabbitt"

Which works, but you need this $100 device for eache and every TV you own

My way uses the receiver in the TV (UHF/VHF) so all you need is a transmitter.

Now I have found some info and it appears to be illegal to transmit above a certain power/wattage, I just can't find what that is and what range that gives you.

A friend of mine is involved in a startup that pushes household full-bandwidth HDTV and still has pipeline to spare for multiple autio streams, VoIP, etc.

They were in talks with a major Japanese consumer products mfr last year (none of the US companies could step up to the plate).
