my local police dept. is brillant

I live just outside a acc coledge town of around 80k poeople.(UVA)As you can imagine we have a large and diverse group of drivers here.Well we have a small put deadly problem with elligal street racers. You know the type Black hoods(can't afford carbon fiber), Monster wings the like to make John Force Rolf. And lest we forget the 55gal. drums of" nause", second only to the stereo's that share thier music with everybody within a nucluar blast zone.
Well our local police dept. along with the Advance auto superstore are having a free "tech" and carshow to show off the cars. Prizes will be awarded in many catagories.
Can't you just see it "and the winner with the most moving violations goes to..................." He/She will revieve.................You just know there is gonna be some cop with a clipboard and camera just having a good 'ol time.
I plan on attending (in the all origional P-car) just to get a good laugh on a friday night.

... maybe they are more clever than they seem...

ever think that maybe the police are doing this so that they can identify possible street racers and get their license and car information in an informal status? I have heard of many incidences in which the street racer simply turns off his running lights when a cop picks them up (so that the cop cannot see the license plate), and then guns it.

It makes it much easier for the cops if they can identify who owns the cars by sight.

Back when I was running with the Pelican canyon runners on Saturday mornings, there were usually unmarked cars in the meeting place with 2 guys in very short haircuts videotaping the cars in the lot before we took off. They always said they were making a video about Porsches' or Bikes (if I was there with the bike gang).

I stopped going to these when some of the drivers started getting out of hand, and the winter weather tore up the canyon roads.

Would not have surprised me to discover these were made to get stock footage to compare with later.

NASCAR's Greg Biffle grew up in the Northwest. This state's large daily paper ran a "human interest" bit on him...including an interview with the town's police chief. It seems the local cops kept a photo of the gold Firebird he had then on their bulletin board. The hot sandwich commercial? The one with Biffle driving a '50 Ford, getting stopped by the cops? In this article the chief mentioned it, said: "I've seen that look before." Those who thinks cops are stupid are those who usually end up spending some jail time....

Exactly right. There are definitely some dumb ones, but at least in California, most are well educated and more importantly, they've been around and like fast cars, bikes, and women just like the rest of us.It's just a game of sorts and depending if they are in uniform or not, which side they are on is interchangeable. Of course when they get caught speeding, they usually get a pass with a lecture.

ya, i believe the sheriff's are the same way...my friends and i were out jetskiing for the day and the sheriff's were out there launching at the same time. we wernt close to the shore, but too close for them, they came by and told us to move it out more toards the middle of the river, which was no prob, except for one of the guys with us, who started messing around too close again and they came back and gave him a ticket, a very expensive ticket too, but he couldnt say anything since they were cool the first time, and even when writing the ticket, the sheriff was still coool saying sorry but he did warn us and they are just thinking about the little kids who are playing near shore...hard to argue with that, plus most of the time they just hang around making sure no one does anything real stupid, i cant complain (then again i didnt get the ticket)
