Taking notes - You sound like you know what you're talking about when it comes to photography. You are not too harsh - I recognize that I'm new at this, appreciate you takin the time to post. You're right on all counts

I can tell you that input from random strangers is going to be of negligible value at best, when it comes to the modeling industry, is it possible to show your pictures to an agent?

I have never worked in that business but I've been around it enough to know the ABCs; (where to start?), OK, #1 is that there are different types of "modeling" from actual big city/big bucks/fashion-type models to smaller market (local/regional) work that is obviously not as competitive. The only problem is that there is not enough work in even the 2nd tier markets like Chicago to make a living, much less Shawnee, KS.

The gentlest way to describe the "A" model world is that you would have to be an absolutely traffic-stopping/stunning 15-16 y.o. that is a minimum of 5'10" tall to even be remotely in the running to get a major agent. And by stunning, I do not mean just the prettiest girl in high school, you would have to photograph in dazzling way from any conceivable angle. To call it competitive and cruel would be the understatement of the century, you wonder why anyone would even want to be involved w/ it. Maybe it is the 7-figure incomes that even non-superstar "A" models earn as teenagers. ;)

A 20 y.o. who is as described above would have a tough time getting signed in N.Y., there is just such a pipeline of 15 y.o. supermodels from Croatia and Brazil that never ends. Did I mention competitive? I cannot think of a current female movie star who could make it as a model in NY, with the exception of Charlise Theron, (15 years ago). The women in the grid girls pictures on this board are not even "B" level models by a country mile, "B" models are still stunning but too short or too old, (20s), etc.. They can be big earners, still.

Obviously there are industries where women are photographed that are technically modeling, I suppose, but you are a nice girl, right? :)

Bottom line is that a woman can be really cute, (like you), and not be a model. And that is not a bad thing. The modeling industry sucks.

I am not looking to be a runway supermodel. I assess my looks my realize that I am not that material and yes, am way too old.
Its a tough industry, and I plan to keep my current career/job and pursue my masters. Modeling is a fun side show for me, but one that I hope I can make a little extra money with, and besides, its alot of fun!

I am hoping to do some commercial modeling, jewelry modeling, jeans modeling etc......

I know some models too, and Dennis is correct. If you just want to make a little money you should be just fine. Just know that "little" means exactly that. Most of the income from being a female model is via the sugardaddies not paychecks.

What I offered above is a very mild reality check/overview about an industry that the average person doesn't know, (or probably care), anything about.

Personally, I have never worked a day in my life, or ever pursued work in that business. It is not a "fun" business, nothing could be further from the truth. I have just been exposed to it enough through other people to know the very basics of it, and sharing it with this young lady who is asking for advice. (In the wrong place, I might add). Take care.

That's cool, and I hope that you do get to make some $$ doing it. But like I said, there is not much work even in 2nd tier markets that are big cities, (and therefore very competitive for the scraps), so keep that in mind. I think that I am doing you a favor by giving you the reality of the business, despite what others here might say. Take care. :cool:

I've cast a bunch of models and actresses over the past couple of decades for marketing, advertising and promotional work, so I feel qualified to comment.

I looked at the One Model Place port. and once I got over the shock of seeing that you are a dead ringer for an ex-girlfriend of mine -- not only face, but figure; measurements, etc. I came up with a few suggestions:

1. Stylist. no photos without a good stylist. Don't be offended, please. everybody needs a stylist in this business.

2. Pro photographer. no boyfriends, pals, or TFP shooters. You need a real photographer with a great portfolio that will take the time to do it right. No real photographer would have used a telephoto lens for the 'sly' image unless he was purposely trying to give you a much bigger booty than you have.

3. Kill the "art" and "artist model" checkboxes. There's nothing but grief there.

Your best course of action for the amount of work you want to do is to find a company you can 'spokesmodel' for. If you can deliver a line on video, so much the better. This type of gig is recurring and can ultimately bring income to help with tuition. The one-time shoots are going to be few and far between in your part of the world. You'll make 50 trips for one gig.

Good luck. There are many more opportunities if you go to the 'big city' but then, you know that. It might be worth making a trip to find a good photographer, though. A good portfolio will open many more doors.

Get a pro to shoot you...don't go to any of those pay-for scam modeling scout services...Go to New York, find the best "test" photographer and walk in to the agents and see what happens...You never know.

Oh ya...Do you like ultra-insecure people with big-egos and very artificial?...If you don't, you are going to need to take up a coke/alcohol habit to deal with them; which you will find readily in that industry.

To qualify - I have been paid in the legitimate modeling industry and have done fashion shows in Barcelona.
