Who was this guy/series on PBS?

Sorry, no pic to show but here's the description I can offer... There was a travel program on PBS where a gentleman would travel to different countries and describe the best places to go and through in a decent history/culture lesson as well. The middle aged guy had kind of a whiny voice and, IIRC, wore glasses....maybe had a moustache. After the show PBS would offer the tape for purchase...which was part of a series. Anyone know the name of this guy or the title of his show? I dont see him on PBS.org and I'm looking for the shows describing Spain and Portugal.

Yeah Rick Steeves. No mustache, whiny voice but writes great travel guides. I have several of his books. Check them out at your local library.

If it is Steves your watching, take his advice with a serious grain of salt. He's a lib that talks like he knows the inside scoop of a particular place. (he doesn't) Tho' his camera man does some good work. I do prefer Rudy Maxa's approach (and even better quality footage)

Rick, I've been to Spain a few times. Wife and I are heading off to Europe in October for 3 weeks- including 9 days on the Island of Mallorca in the med. Fire away if you have questions... Cheers, Paul.

Thanks Paul. I've been there several times myself. I was looking to get a particular show for a friend who is going shortly. When you get back post some pics. It's a beautiful and interesting country.

Rick, I went to Mallorca twice in '03- loved it. Here's a picture of a street in Palma- as you know, scenes like this abound in Europe, but it's a lot different stateside! We have friends who own property on the island- if you're looking for somewhere to stay in Cala D'or, let me know and I'll put you in touch. Cheers, Paul.

I make a point of watching Rick Steves so I know where to avoid his throngs of grupies... True story; my wife and were traveling in Europe with some Rick Steves fanatics. Two weeks of the trip were spent in Southern Italy visiting my brother and his wife. My friends insisted on following the Rick Steves list of places you must see rather than take the advice of people who had lived there for years. Bet you can't guess which places were crawling with tourists and at which places we enjoyed genuine local culture...
