My luck bites

My daughter and I went to watch Monty pythons holy grail last night and had no sound from the DVD player. Well it was an old unit so I wasn't too upset about and decided to buy a new one today. I pile up in the car and drive 30 miles one way to the local Best Buy. I spent about an hour looking and pushing buttons and finally found the one I wanted. I grab one of the kids who works in the store and inform him 'I'll take this one". Nice Yamaha unit not too many gizmo's but great sound. Well and behold there is no stock number on it so to the computer we go. He can't find the unit I want but explains to me that the box next to it is the new model. It is the same unit only it has XM with it. Well I like the comedy on XM so I get up sold. The first sign this isn't going to work is it won't fit in the BMW. oh well, I unbox the thing and place it in the car still wrapped in that funky foam paper stuff. I get back home (60 miles later) and start placing speakers. I unwrap the head piece and guess what It is nothing more than a receiver. I already have one of these so I wrap it all back up and back to town I go. I take my receipt to the service desk and explain my Delmar. We unload the car and I quest for the unit I originally wanted. I finally get someone who knows something about their store and he gets me the right one. Back home I go (120 miles on the car today) I unwrap everything and hook it all up we gona watch something loud with lots of cars in it. WRONG The frigging thing is defective out of the box no sound. I had that last night and didn't have to spend 500$ to get the same thing. I called the store but they are closed. So the car is re-packed and the saga will continue tomorrow.

Are you sure it's the DVD player and not the AV reciver (amp) that you have it plugger into for sound?
Try useing the simple stereo outputs from the DVD player and connect them to a different input directly into the tv (or in place of another device on the AV reciver. Also, test with a different set of cables to rule them out.

Exactly. That sounds like too many coincidences for me.

Probably have the amp muted, or the cables are hooked up wrong.

well the cables are of the computer type to the sub and the spaekers hook to the sub. the amp is all in the dvd player no reciever or seperate componants. it's a one piece plug and play operation. Unless you are me and it's a one piece crap shoot. At least it's now monday and things can start looking up.

King Arthur:
[W]hat are you then?

French Soldier:
I'm French. Why do think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king.

Sir Galahad:
What are you doing in England?

French Soldier:
Mind your own business.

French Soldier:
You don't frighten us, English pig-dog! Go and boil your bottoms, son of a silly person. I blow my nose on you, so-called Arthur-king, you and your silly English kiniggets.
-----
French Soldier:
I don't want to talk to you, no more, you empty-headed animal, food trough wiper. I fart in your general direction. You mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries.
