Californian's are stupid

Seriously; I live in LA...this story of the alligator in a local park has been going on for some time.

Someone who owned it and has been arrested dropped it in the lake because it got too big for him.

http://www.dailybreeze.com/news/articles/1704971.html

Now the locals love it...they think it's great to some extent and the local govt is trying to catch it alive. They have failed twice.

Now...I grew up on the panhandle of Florida and have seen what an alligator, even a small one can do to a dog much less a small person.

They need to get a sharp shooter or three out there and watch for it to pop it's head out of the water and then shoot it dead.

I love animals and all and this one is totally innocent; the fellow who dumped him should be held financially and criminally responsible for the cleanup of his mess.

Rant complete.

Alligators are dangerous man.

An ex of mine 'attempted' to "pet" a baby alligator here in FL once on vacation. That was the last time she would 'attempt' something like that. Stupid girl.........we had to take her to ER for stitches and a tetnus shot.

'round here, that sucker would be a pair of boots by now.

I'm all for protecting the environment, and only hunt when it's proper for conservation, but an animal like that in a place like that is just dangerous. I have seen what a gator can do to a large dog, and I'm sure it can easily kill a human.

Reading only the title I must wonder if this is suppose to be a revelation? I thought it was common knowledge.

Being one myself I admit that the title is somewhat obvious.

I crown myself "Master of the Obvious."

This new title will be mine for the day; tomorrow we should crown someone else.

C'mon up here and hunt Cougar, will you? There is officially now an overpopulation, according to our Fish & Game division. Sooner or later, it won't be only pets disappearing, with cats looking for new territory coming into outlying suburbs of central and eastern Oregon towns like Bend. Ahhh, but the greens managed to get a no hunting Cougars with hounds initiative on the ballot and it passed. Now we're paying the price, since it'll illegal to hunt after sunset, and Cougars are nocturnal predators, nearly impossible to see in the daytime, can't really be hunted without the help of dogs.

Trying to remember the difference ?
Do Crocodiles have the teeth sticking out and Alligators do not ?
Seems to me the Crocks are the real bad boy's

There was a video of one of the two types grabbing a trainer by the arm and the doing a spin. Not good for an arm.

Same thing happened here. No more bait for bears; no more hounds for cougars or bears. It started in California, so maybe they deserve a gator or two. Funny thing is, the houndsmen are busier now in California going after "problem" cats than they ever were sport hunting them with paying clients. Now the state, i.e. the taxpayers, pay them to hunt. More cats get killed now than before the hunting ban. I guess it makes the "greens" feel better to think no one is having fun killing them, though. Coyotes are the big problem in my area now, with articles in all of the Seattle area papers warning folks to keep cats and dogs in after dark. At least it's too cold in the winter here for crocs and gators to survive. We have had a few dumped in local lakes over the years; we just stay clear until winter and wait till they slow down and stiffen up a bit. Pretty easy to catch then.

I agree gators are dangerous, and that they should get the gator out of there - put it in a zoo or something. I don't exactly see that it is fair for the gator to die because some asshat puts him where he does not belong.

My house is on a small man-made lake. As of this evening, there are three gators living in it; ranging in size from 3 - 8 feet.

The lake behind the houses across the street have two - a 3 footer and a 5 footer.

When they come out to sun themselves, they scurry away when you get within 20 feet of them.

This is a subdivision. most of the yards are not fenced (mine is - it is at the end of the lake and not obstructing anyone's view). You can walk from your back door to the water.
We've never had a problem - why, because we know that you don't feed or molest the gators.

That doesn't surprise me much. PETA types push stuff like that, and have no conscious grasp of the consequences. There's no other thought in it aside from 'animals are ALL good, and we should NEVER kill any of them! ... let's have a group hug'

I think if it's managed and regulated well, the population can be kept at a healthy level for the environment.

Well; I agree he certainly doesn't deserve to be shot BUT he is in a park frequented by young children and frankly idiots who do not know that gators are extremely dangerous because they aren't in these parts. In florida most folks understand that Gators are bad news to mess with; here we don't have them so the public at large don't know that via common sense (which isn't so common).

I personally feel they should not be wasting money on trying to capture it alive. They have spent 10s of thousands of $$$ and come up with nothing but a scared gator. The dude who abandoned it in the lake should be liable for that money and should be charged criminally for the death of it after it is shot to save the public good.

Right now they are trying to capture it to put it in a Zoo (they want the LA Zoo but I think I read that the LA Zoo has no room for it).

It's bad publicity but dammit it isn't the government's fault that this guy put an alligator in the lake. HE is the one to blame whether the gator lives or dies.

A recent column in the State's largest paper, written by the outdoors columnist. There was a game division hearing on the Cougar problem. At this hearing, there was an "animal lover" quoted as saying that one of the prices of living in Oregon is the potential loss of human life to a Cougar. Incredulous! How twisted can thinking become? I wonder of this PETA (or whatever) bozo would think the same if it was her toddler taken from a suburban yard. "Well, she was a cute little thing, but Cougars need to eat, and I can always make another one." RoninLB? The column has been clipped, on it's way to you via snail mail...
