The 904 has a plastic body and it's kinda cool. :D And what exactly is "donkey cart" about the vette suspension? |

I sure hope nobody jumps out a window after hearing the news... |
aww..jeez, doesn't this thread belong on the 911 tech board??
|
Maybe Porsche should look at that donkey cart rear suspension if it took a $400k Porsche to beat it. As for pushrods, in a conversation with a guy who builds 2000+ hp $50k engines one day I asked why drag racers don't use OHC 4 valve engines. I said all the inherent advantages should help them too. He says "what advantages?" I start into the litany of fewer moving parts, lighter valve train etc. He says flatly, at 8000 rpms & below those advantages don't come into play, in fact 4 valve systems produce less torque and are at a performance dis-advantage untill the engine really starts to buzz. Based on the Z06 numbers Ronnie appears to be right. So IMHO knowing the other guy has pushrods and you don't is not very comforting if he just whipped your a$$.

I was commenting to my wife this evening that our V-6 3.2 litre Audi makes as much HP as our old V-8 4.7 litre Mustang. My 1.3 litre RX-7 makes close to 460 HP and it is tuned VERY consevatively. I am upgrading the fuel right now and adding a more efficient turbo and will see approx. 550 HP. Thas 423 HP per litre and it will still be a conservative tune. I cannot wait to see the bloke who dolled out 70K for his Z-06 at a red light in the near future. When my crappy 80's sports car rips him a new one he will wonder why he spent the money. I dislike Vettes due to the SCCA and the VEttes cannot loose mentality. In AX the Z-06 rules SS and ASP and probably a spattering of other classes like SM2. In BP the RX-7 rules as king. Steve O'bleans whooped up on vetted for 3 years straight obliterating them. What did the SCCA do? They decided to penalize the RX-7 with a 100lb. weight penalty at the same time letting the Vettes have a 100lb. drop in min. weight. That stinks to high heaven. That is the reason I hate Vettes. If anyone owns a GT3 and wants a co-driver at the Nationals let me know. I am a talented AXer that would love to ruin a Vettes day in SS. I'll buy the rims and tires. No joke. |
Jim -
Your RX-7 vs. the new Z06........50 laps at a racetrack.......who's gonna have quicker lap times? |
There is NOTHING on my RX-7 that is stock. Everything has been upgraded. That said...
A 2500 lb. 460 HP (soon to be 550HP) RX-7 Vs. a 3100 lb. 500 HP car? In a short race I would win. A long race such as a 50 lapper. Hmmmm.... depends on the MPG of a Vette at WOT. I know I get about 5MPG at DE's so I would have to pit about 4 or 5 times in a 50 lap race. I really do not know what a Vette will do fuel wise. It will come down to pit stops. Car to car I am confident there are few street cars that can beat me. I run down Cobra kit cars with this little monster the best part is that no one will give it a second look in the pits/paddock. You should see a DE/open track day. No one looks at the car until it has run then all the car owners who's cars I was all over the mirrors of out on the track are stopping by wonderinf WTF is uo with this car. I have been accused of hiding a N2O system in the car both on the track and at AX's. When the turbo is at full sing the car is freaking scary. |
How about durability....brakes, trackability of the RX-7?
Post some pics, let's see the beast! |
` Subject at hand is the Z-06 I'll do a thread on my RX-7 some day in the other cars section.

Bueno!
I have a soft spot (right here) for track cars... |

I was VERY tempted to buy an Elise about 4 months ago. There will be a thread in O/T Tues. Evening or Wed. Morning if a PPI goes well on a 911 I am looking ot purchase. Finally a 18 year old dream come true. My RX-7 was a replacement for a 911. I was about to buy a 1987 911 for 24K when a lawyer client screwed me out of 25K. Long story I never got it. I spent 10K trying and gave up. So I bought this 7K RX-7 instead. I had owned older RX-7's and figured this would be a fun car. Then I did my research and realized I was sitting on a monster. 33K later I have an amazing machine that cleans up at Autocrosses (scoring FTD;s all the time) and Open track days. If my PPI goes well on Tuesday I will start a new thead. I am buying a 911 and driving it cross county with my 12 year old son. We will see Kansas City, The gateway to the West in St. Louis, Nashville, The Blue Ridge Moutains, Savannah (the only city not to be burned in the Civil War), and St Augustine on our way to Florida. I am ready to document the whole trip and post it up here. My 18 y/o dream is about to come true and I am so excited its unbelievable. |
Sounds like a happy ending to this thread at least! ;)

Jim so let's see, you can take a car that by your own admission has had EVERYTHING upgraded or modified and maybe beat a showroom stock 'vette. Your point is?????? Don't count on smoking one off a stop light. Rotarys don't have enough torque to pull a greased string out of a cat's a$$. 427 inches of pushrod grunt might well hurt your feelings. If you really wan't to ruin your day, find an '03 Cobra with a pulley and a chip. Over 500 rwhp from an almost completely stock American V8 will send you home in tears. A doctor friend of mine has crushed the hearts of a 2 turbo 996 drivers with one of those. When someone takes your approach & modifies everything, turbo etc, you end up with a streetable 8 second quarter mile Mustang like a friend has in Houston.

Gonna be a beast, then!
IMO, it's more satisfying running at the track than rippin the guy next to ya on the street ;-) |
