Some one explain this to me

I watched the news this evening. Both CNN and Fox have reported that no one has been picked up from the Dome. The busses you are seeing on TV are picking up others from different locations.

Sheppard Smith and Jeraldo were loosing it. Sheppard looks like crap and looks as pissed as the Mayor.

There are thousands on the I-10 bridge waiting for a ride.

They are keeping all the people at the Dome prisoner and will not let them go nor will they pull them out.

Both groups the I-10 and Dome crowd are barely getting any supplies.

They have now set up a road block on I-10 and will not let people walk out.

Anyone want to tell me what the agenda here is? Why are they keeping all these people with babies and small children in there not letting them out?

Are we being mis-informed by the media or is this really happening.

Why are they doing this?

This is exactly why I will NEVER go to a shelter if I have to evacuate from a storm in Florida. Once you walk in you are a prisoner until they tell you you can leave. Trust me, next storm, no one is going to shelters. There will be many more deaths in the years to come as people risk riding out storms at home rather than be abused in shelters.

If this is all true it is B*ULL****! Plain and simple. One must wonder if there is a racial undertone to all this. Babies are babies, children are children, People are poeple what is happening in NO is disgraceful.

Best guess I have is that everyone is overwhelmed at the sheer number of people involved. I hear that the Houston astrodome is full already, forcing people who were enroute there to be detoured to Dallas. People are being shuttled to as far as Tenn and Kentucky as everywhere is just full.

Believe that the numbers are more than anyone expected and when this became known that they stopped any futher transports until a ready spot to contain them is found.

Sorry!

Unfortunatly get used to it. When the storms hit Forida all of you went on with your lives a week later as we turmoiled for 4-6 months some still turmoiling a year later here.

I am sure this has passed the extent of most Americans attention spans and they want to move on to Football and Baseball. Unfortunatly some of us are truly concerned about what is happening.

It breaks my heart to see 10 month old babies in that heat and sun being exposed to those nasty conditions.

FYI - My 1 year old was getting heat stroke last year when we were without power for 20 out of 30 days. I cannot fathom how those little tykes are holding up. It is tearing me up watching this. I am just trying to understand what is happening down there.

This is truly amazing. I had heard that another 15K people have just showed up. They estimate there are another 50K out in the city.

Like the mayor said stop thinkng small start thinking big. I hope they are stepping up. It is good to see the airport opened up.

I would think the priority would be the people in the Dome as conditons there seem to be dire.

I've never seen Shep like that... He just looked frustrated. Geraldo's always been a drama queen, so I don't take him very seriously anyhow.

There are some serious (edit: communication) issues that need to be dealt with... Greta at the Astrodome said that they have room for 8000 more and Michigan is going to take 10,000 of them. They said there's no communication coming out of Louisiana, so they don't know when to expect busloads of people, so they show up and it's chaos.

At least they're finally getting food & water to most of those people, and theres some order. If all of those people decide to start walking to Texas, though... tha will be madness.

There was a report on one of the cable news stations that the Mayor himself somehow got a small string of busses to bypass the NO residents standing in the sun in order to transport tourists out of one of the high-end hotels. Anyone else catch this or further details?

They just reported on a younger guy that "borrowed" a yellow school bus from the bus yard and drove about to the Astrodome which he said took about 8 hours. They took 2-3 collections on the bus to buy gas/diesel to get them there. Interesting story.

Face it..the sheer size of the task is incredible.
If there are 20,000 people..at 40 per bus....500 buses
if 100,000, that is 2500 buses

I see buses passing on Hwy 90 going west all day long filled to capacity. some of them official transport, some have been stolen. I just hope they continue west over the state line. we have no more room and supplies for any more here.

I have heard the same and in all honesty it makes sense. Guess what? The tourists have somewhere to go home to. Why make them sit there adding to the problem when they can go home.

I just looked up a transport company to see how many people fit on a bus. It ranges from 52 to 62. They also offered a tandem bus that held 72.

20,000 / 55 = 363 Buses. That does not seem so insurmountable to me. Of course the real proble is where to put everyone.

Kudos to Texans for their hospitality they are doing a wonderful job hosting all those poeple.

In regards to busses. Jesse jackson and Cleo Feilds, Local NAACP point man, lawyer, ex-politician, got 7 busses to go to Xavier University to pick up students. As they finally made there way into the city Jackson wanted to stop the caravan to "interview" some of the people still on the bridges. These folks thought the buses were for them, but Jesse declared they had a to go pick up others that were less fortunate (they were in a college dorm rooms). Made their way and picked up the students. As the caravan was leaving 2 of the busses were only filled to 1/3 capacity, as they passed others stranded. Wheres the love Jesse? You afraid to pickup your own? the benefit and curse of living in this is that you get all the info that the national media doesn't want you guys to see.

Police action...there are numerous looters and thugs that have been "neutralized". This will never make the national news either.
