The government so stupid!
I just finished watching a live segment on Fox News. It showed a group of "rescuers" in New Orleans breaking into secured homes searching for people who were dead or in need of rescue. They are planning on doing this house-to-house search through-out the entire city.
This is so damm inefficient, and so stupid it is almost beyond belief. The government is wasting time, damaging private property and leaving people's homes in a state where it will be unsecured when people start returning to the area. The government is handing out $2000 to all the evacuees. Why don't they get the names and addresses of all these people getting this money, and before giving out this money, get additional information from these people as to whether or not their homes were secured when they left, if anyone was left behind at their address, if there were any pets left at their address, etc. The government could then put this information in a database and get it on laptops to the searchers on the ground in New Orleans. This way the "rescue" personnel wouldn't have to break into houses that were secured; they could concentrate their rescue and recover efforts at those addresses without information from the residents, or with people or pets likely to be inside. I guess such an undertaking would just make too much sense and be too efficient for the government to implement... Last edited by competentone; 09-10-2005 at 08:51 AM.. |

US taxpayers are not only paying through their Federal taxes, but adding on $700 million plus in donations... it could amount to $35K per Katrina-displaced person.
Too bad they didn't illegally build and move in to the west bank/Gaza, where compensation per [recently-displaced] familiy ranged from $150K to over $400K (and yes, US taxpayers footed part of the bill).

I see they are now confiscating privately owned guns, even legal ones.
Seems like a good reason to have one or two "disposable" guns.

I guess you didn't hear the latest news. Haliburton recently bought Acme Door Company, the largest manufacturer of doors in the US. While viewing the devastation caused by Katrina, Cheney instructed FEMA to break down every door to verify that there were no bodies or people to rescue in abandoned homes. Since Haliburton recently won a no bid contract to rebuild New Orleans, who do you think will benefit?

"NEW ORLEANS, Sept. 8 - Local police officers began confiscating weapons from civilians in preparation for a forced evacuation of the last holdouts still living here, as President Bush steeled the nation for the grisly scenes of recovering the dead that will unfold in coming days. [snip]" Not much detail.
