Flying dinosaur with 58' wingspan -- remains found

...in New Zealand.

Hard to imagine an animal that size flying...

There were no dinosaurs. The earth is only 6000 years old. Did you forget?

Why is it that highly tolerant non-judgmental anti-Christians take a perfectly good science article and, on the very first post, turn it into a Christian-bashing thread?

That is interesting, isn't it.

Of course, it could simply be to "challenge" the indoctrination going on in this thread?

I thought it was pretty neat, myself. No feathers, more like a bat, except without fur, and about 400 times as big. I did some googling around when I saw the article on slashdot -- some theorize that similar beasts walked on all fours as well as flew, iirc. Nutty.

Read a book on Dinosaurs to the kids last night. They couldn't fathom a creature as big as our oak tree lumbering about or a beast as tall as an overpass with a mouth big enough to swallow them whole!

Needless to say they were glad they have gone the way of all flesh, as am I. Would be cool to actually see one (maybe on TV!).

We have it soft compared to 65 million years ago.

The latest theories are putting feathers on more and more land-based dinos. It's amazing how many new discoveries are still being made...

There are a number of Christians that accept scientific discovery even when it appears to conflict with strict biblical interpretation. They would rather focus on Christ's message than try to debunk the validity of carbon dating. Their faith is unshakable and the concept of evolution as fact is no threat.

Just a couple of weeks ago I passed through several Montana towns along Hwy 2 on my way to Glacier National Park that had huge bronze eagles on display. We're talking 20-30 foot wingspans, so about half as big as this prehistoric tweety bird. Even those goofy statues kind of leave you with a chill when you start thinking, "what if?...". I couldn't imagine looking up to see one of these. Reminds me of an old Johnny Quest episode...

Yeah, I saw an article not too long ago about how many dinosaurs may have had downy-like feathers -- very short, soft feathers, more like thin fur than like anything else. Given plumage, there's suddenly a realm for coloring, and the days of grey-green lizard-like dinosaur drawings are gone.

In the book that the kids have, they post the question of what color are dinosaurs. They even give examples of how different ones would look. Emmy laughed at the T-rex that was pink with blue poka-dots, "thats not scary Daddy!" Max saw one with green and yellow stripes and declared that it must be a John Deere dinosaur.

Given the full range of colors we see in the avain and amphibian worlds, it is really anybodies guess. I wonder if by chance a piece of the chromozone could yield some insight?
