I bet deep down, his opinion is that war is never justified. There's nothing wrong with that opinion... it's incorrect, but, if someone can be honest about believing it, then at least they are honest.

You are being deliberately disingenuous here, Mul. You know that what Smedley was talking about was starting wars with the sole purpose of generating wealth for a small group of plutocrats - under whatever guise. He fought those wars for a living, and regretted that aspect of it terribly.

Socialism holds everyone down to the bare minimum of survival, so everyone is equally miserable and poor, while those at the top profit from it all. Remember, we're all equal. I am not quite sure if Mr. Butler is a good barometer of reality...Many other veterans seem to disagree, as do the millions of people we have liberated from oppression...In this recent operation alone, albeit our self-interest was in play (physically and financially) we have liberated over 50 million people...We have done more for Muslims than they themselves ever have...Same is true of Russia and the Vietnamese and the Nicarguans and the El Salvadorians and the Europeans and the South Koreans, and the American slaves...etc.

Profit, as unfortunate as it may be, is an inextricable part of warfare...Seems a reasonable trade-off.
