Why do terrorists attack the U.S.?

Love how they call it the "Patriot" act too. As in, if you oppose this act you are unpatriotic, treasonous and anti-american. The right to dissent is one the things we fought world wars for. Now its unpatriotic...

Who cares why...Only lefties want to "understand them". They are irrational and blinded by their religious fervor...They hate that we spread what they consider "sin"; from women's rights including attire and abortion, to homosexuality, to simply not being Muslim...World domination factors in.

But the real issue is why wasn't this dealt with before...Why did we wait until critical mass (i.e. 9-11), when Clinton could have cleanly accepted Osama from the Sudan?...Why did Clinton manufacture the wall that rendered impotent our intel?...Why was Sandy Bergler shoving secrets regarding these facts down his pants (what else could it have been, really)?

A copy of the Able Danger chart that identified lead 9/11 hijacker Mohamed Atta as a terrorist operating inside the U.S. a year before the 9/11 attacks is clearly visible in a video of a 2002 speech by delivered by Rep. Curt Weldon to the Heritage Foundation.

The Pentagon, the 9/11 Commission and the Senate Intelligence Committee are currently seeking evidence that the bombshell chart, featuring a photo Atta, ever existed - as claimed by three members of the Able Danger team, along with Rep. Weldon. But so far, no physical evidence of the controversial document has surfaced.

Until now.

A third of the way through his May 23, 2002 address on data fusion techniques, the video shows Rep. Weldon unfurling a copy of the now missing document and displaying it to the Heritage audience.

"This is the unclassified chart that was done by the Special Forces Command briefing center one year before 9/11," he explains. "It is the complete architecture of al Qaeda and pan-Islamic extremism. It gives all the linkages. It gives all the capabilities. . . ."

Though Weldon never mentions Able Danger or Atta by name - and the video never zooms in on the chart to the point where Atta's photo is identifiable - it's clear from Weldon comments that the chart is the same one currently being sought.

Bill Clinton was on the Sunday morning talk shows, with his buddies Steponallofus (now of ABC) and Russert, and guess what?...neither asked about Bergler, the wall or Able Danger.

Supe- I used no pretense regarding liberals when I stated "freedom". Not sure if that's what you meant, but wanted to clarify.

And, our Western Culture does not exist without our freedom. The culture was built by the freedom. So, I do think it appropriate to use as my "simple" answer.

Maybe this question should be asked in an Arab/Islamic newsgroup. Otherwise all these answers are pure speculation, pretty much all of which are coloured by political bias - both left and right, and I'll bet most of the speculation is wrong. Not saying I have the answer (I don't), just that when people speculate (again, both left and right) without bothering to actually ask those who may know, they're usually wrong, or at best only partially correct.

It's not about the individual - there are no doubt hundreds if not thousands of zealots waiting in the wings to take Atta & Osama's place.

The link, like the comments in your post have nothing to do with the thread. Just hot air. You are consistent though, I'll give you that - the link is about something air cooled.

I think this analogy is somewhat valid when applied to our new buddies in the ME. We have to understand why this is happening and fix that. Not use the ol' "kill them all and let god sort 'em out" philosophy. They'll keep coming.

I think it is more important to try and understand why these acts occur. I don't think it's a simple as "freedom" or "their religion compels them to do it".

They hate our culture and the way it fragments the family unit and the fathers role (power). There is a whole gripe list, basically any problem they have is our fault.

In many ways they have much in common with our home grown extreemist who want to teach religion (not science) in our public schools among other things.

I've been there done that.

My old hood from about 1974 to 1979 when I moved out was 50% to later 90% Arab.

Could not get a job in the Pit (nickname for our hood) - they would only hire their own family.

Could not get a girl there - unless you snuck around and then some.

Could buy beer under-aged, non-fixed prices, different every time.

The day they put their prayers on the loud speakers I knew we lost, and then the churches all closed no more bells on Sunday morning.

Their culture is also a poison, all pretty friendly until they are the majority and you are in the minority.
