Unhappy New Orleans Floods again

Levee breaks look worse than the first set.

So far, it's in a very limited area, though. But we're hours from landfall.

:-(

Discovery had a show a few months ago on the Galveston flood of 100 or so years back. The water level rise was so gradual that some people floated among the houses at or above the second floor level and survived.

The government just needs to throw more money at New Orleans; if they get enough money floating around down there, some of it is bound to get stuck in the levees and plug the leaks!

I think we should collect schoolchildren's pennies and use them as landfill to raise the part of the city that's below sea level. Pretty sure that will be the cheapest way to do it. Just don't let Halliburton mark up the price of the pennies...

What's happening in New Orleans is ruining not only the lives of the many of thousands of residents of that city, but it's also taking a part of this country that we may not be able to recapture.
If you have never been in that part of the country,it is special. Like no other place I've ever been without leaving the continent.
I'm just very sad to see what is happening to those folks.

Its the murder capital of the world. I've partied on Bourbon Street. Seems like a giant cesspool these days. Seriously, besides the jazz, what does it have that makes it so special? I don't get it.

Well, I hear that its the murder capital of the world.

Hey, maybe that's it . .. it's a place for killers to kill each other.

Yeah, I don't get it either.

What gets me is on the Left coast, when you build a house, you have to include all kinds of provisions for a BIG quake. (lots of steel to strap the house down, for example)

so whats the deal w/ N.O.? Shouldn't they be required to build on stilts? ... or maybe on floats, with a big-ass anchor?

Big oil refining, largest seaport in the U.S. (wonderfully strategic location, the gulf, the mississippi), much of our oil reserves are underground there...

Largest as measured in tonnage shipped, not in value of the cargo or "acreage."

NO = Lake KatrinaRita,
Like I said before, Why pour $ into a swamp? Fix it right or "Let it Be"
It need to be miles wide levies, 8-15' above sea level and a big lake where NO used to be. That causes equal pressure between two water masses.

Oh, so, so appropriate. If you haven't been to Bourbon Street, then you don't know the sweet sweet smell of regurgitated tequila mixed with dried human urine....mmmmmm

let's just repair the parts that didn't flood and you guys can keep all those poor people that were sent your way in exchange for the help. after your crime and unemployment rates soar, maybe you'll change your mind about rebuilding the rest just to have somewhere to send them back to.... One thing though.. could you wait a while? our local economy is going to boom for a while since so many companies are relocating here in my town. every available property has been bought up at above asking prices. too many jobs available and not enough skilled labor though
