You guys would go bonkers in the Northwest...there are nearly as many microbreweries here as espresso stands. I once read, that at well over 400, the Northwest now has more breweries than Germany...you like your beer pale, ale, stout, dark, light, you name it, it's here..on tap. So many individual beer names it's impossible to keep track. How about a pint of Terminator Stout? Hammerhead ale? Black Butte Porter? A few of the readily available varieties here...

austin552 09-21-2005 10:45 PM

Worked a microbrewery festival in Durham once. Free beer, great stuff! Had a chocolate stout that was to die for and a really different one called purple passion. Mmmm...

Mulhollanddose 09-21-2005 10:54 PM

About the only beer I miss is a good hefavisin...damned alcoholism!

HardDrive 09-21-2005 11:33 PM

pwd72s is right. I live up in Seattle, and there are micro-brewers all over the place. Tons of great beers.

Me like beer. All work and no beer make HardDrive something something.....

I don't think I've ever had a beer I *didn't* like. My dad is a big fan of Corsendonk, but it's actually one of my least favorites - too much of a raisin aftertaste for me:

Shaun @ Tru6 09-22-2005 05:07 AM

Watney's Cream Stout, Old Peculiar, any wheat beer, any warm, flat british beer on tap, a black and red (Guiness and Killian's)

that said, hot summer day, washing the car, throwing back an ice-cold Rolling Rock is pure bliss.

Par911 09-22-2005 05:35 AM

My current favorite is Kostriker. http://deephousepage.com/smilies/alc.gif

My fave is Henry Wienharts Private Reserve. Had it a while back, but cant find it around my area.

Paul T 09-22-2005 06:05 AM

Mmmm....Beer!

Some of my favorites:

St. Bernardus ABT 12
Victory Storm King Stoudt - just had that over the weekend, very nice.
Stoudts Double IPA also one of my favorites...

Is it the weekend yet?

cool_chick 09-22-2005 06:05 AM

One of the great things about Canada - some of the best beer in the world, and this is the best I've ever had:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1127394299.gif

Unfortunately they just got bought out by Molson, so we're all a little worried about the quality slipping as the quantity will no doubt increase. Interestingly, Molson was feeling the heat from microbrew competitors like these guys, which is why they bought them out. Creemore is a little village an hour or so north of Toronto, and until a few years ago, you pretty much had to drive there to get the beer. Yet they produced a brew so well that once it was more widely available it took market share from the big guys!

Oh yeah, and I think you Yanks get an unfair rep when it comes to beer, because pretty much the only exports are crap (Bud, Coors, etc, much the same as our exports are also crap - Molson & Labatts). Though I've only had a few, the American microbrews I've had are awesome - as good as Canadian!

livi 09-22-2005 06:11 AM

Living next to Denmark,

Carlsberg - "probably the best beer in the world".

There are some extreme advantages to living in the PNW, and beer is one of them. You can't swing a dead cat here without hitting a microbrewery and we're not talking about see-though beer.

I've liked very much nearly every beer that has come out of the Full Sail brewery in OR. And lately I've very much enjoyed Manny's.

It's hard to find a bad beer, or a bad cup of coffee, in Seattle.

B D 09-22-2005 12:14 PM

Mac and Jack's African Amber and Pyramid Hefeweizen. Never had a bad Hefe yet.

KevinG 09-22-2005 12:31 PM

Rollin yer own is the way to go!

Right now I have an Irish Export and an Old Ale on tap, with an Imperial IPA joining these tomorrow. Saturday, I brew a Trappist for the holidays. Once it cools down some I get to start on the Marzen & Hefes for spring. Life is good!

My commercial purchases revolve around Firestone Double Barrel, Stone's 8th and Ruination and New Belgium's 1554 when I can find it.

I envy you guys in the PNW! There's some good micro down here but nothing like the selection and quality of OR and WA.

Steel Reserve 211 High Gravity Lager. 8.1% Alcohol and comes in 4 packs of 20 oz. cans. Knocks you on your butt.

Dogfish Head's 90 Minute IPA. So bitter it'll take the enamel off'n your teeth. So loaded with alcohol that you'll take a long nap after dinner. Wonderful stuff!

For lower hop & alcohol content, but still wonderful, New Glarus' IPA.

A CheeseHead

It's brewed in Portland...and around here, some liken it's flavor to alka-seltzer. Man, you East Coast guys must be really hurting for decent beer if you think Henry's is good....my sympathy. Too early in the day for me, but later I might "steal" one of Cindy's Black Butte Porters....it's okay for bottled beer.

Freybird 09-22-2005 02:25 PM

Home-brew usually, on tap now: Paulaner Hefewiezen clone
Sierra Nevada Celebration clone
Saison Dupont clone

Commercial fave: Vapeur Cochonne, form the world's last steam generated brewery.

Exactly my thought, but I wasn't going to say it. If you think Henry's is good beer, do yourself a favor and come visit Paul or myself.

scottmandue 09-22-2005 04:59 PM

Mass produced American beer IS "light" beer...
Who said "American beer is like making love in a canoe"?

Been drinking alot of Newcastle lately, just because my favorite pizza joint has it on tap, not too shabby.

I like Tettlies (not the tea) or Boddington when I can get it.

Yeah, northwest kicks a$$ with micro breweries!

No doubt. I like the Pyramid DPA on draught. It's nitrogenated like Guiness. Billions of beautiful small bubbles. OK, now I'm thirsty.
