School Expels Girl for Having Gay Parents

ONTARIO, Calif.

A 14-year-old student was expelled from a Christian school because her parents are lesbians, the school's superintendent said in a letter.

Shay Clark was expelled from Ontario Christian School on Thursday.

"Your family does not meet the policies of admission," Superintendent Leonard Stob wrote to Tina Clark, the girl's biological mother.

Stob wrote that school policy requires that at least one parent may not engage in practices "immoral or inconsistent with a positive Christian life style, such as cohabitating without marriage or in a homosexual relationship," The Los Angeles Times reported in Friday's edition.

Stob could not be reached for comment by the newspaper. Shay and her parents said they won't fight the ruling.

School administrators learned of the parents' relationship this week after Shay was reprimanded for talking to the crowd during a football game, Tina Clark said.

Clark and her partner have been together 22 years and have two other daughters, ages 9 and 19.

Why is it "obvious"? You know one ruling, one instance. You have no idea what other rulings they have or haven't made. You can assume all you want. But, to claim it's obvious is just weird and disingenuous.

Talking to the crowd? wtf does that mean? Maybe her mommies enrolled her at the school to prove a point, and used her as a pawn. Maybe this 'talking to the crowd' consisted of her bashing the Christian school's policies, or causing some other rukkus? Maybe they had a totally legitimate reason to get rid of this girl, and this is the one way they could find in the handbook to make it happen.

I used the word obvious because I think Tech has a point. Do you think that the rest of the parents of children at that school are squeaky clean according to the criteria set forth by the school?

I think it is obvious that they decided to single these people out because of their sexual preferences. It's their sandbox, though. Kinda like the Boy Scouts excluding atheists. It's their sandbox.

I wondered the same thing, but I think you're speculating quite a bit. I think it's telling that the parents have no desire to fight the ruling. If they are using their daughter as a pawn to make a point, they'd put up more of a fight to keep her there.

Mike- You say again that it's obvious they were singled out. What in the text makes you think they were singled out? I believe the only thing in the text that makes it obvious, to you, is that they were Christians.

If I missed something in the text that makes it obvious, please point it out. Otherwise, are you being a bigot?

I've read the article three times. We have no idea whether many other kids were expelled, or none. We don't know if 5 kids were expelled due to divorces, or none. We don't know if 5 kids were expelled because their parents were open swingers, or none.

The fact is, there's nothing in the article that makes it obvious that anyone was singled out.

I believe people's preconceived notions get the best of them. I think it's happened to you again today.

You think it would have been a news story if they had thrown out adulterers? Or, swingers?

Thing is, I know of several churches which have fired their ministers due to sexual infidelities. It happens. Why do we automatically assume this school doesn't do th same?

BTW, If the story had mentioned anything about unfair application of their rules, I wouldn't be here.

It's not clear that the parents were Christians. The article doesn't claim this. A lot of parents send their children to these schools because the education is somtimes much better than the local public school.

Religion is not racist, but is discrminartory by its very nature. Live by the rules of the Bible, Koran, whaterver, our your not part of the group. I've got no problem with that, if you don't like their rules then find another school, mosk, church..etc.

I do believe it's silly to punish the girl. She may be living her life accourding the schools values. It's the parents that are in viaolation of the schools values.

This is an interesting posting. You are almost always very good about puttins a URL link to the actual article and there is not on this. Not even a mention of the school nor the newspaper in your post. Why???

Did a search and nothing what so ever comes up with the child or parents, but lots of information on Mr. Leonard Stob. Seems that he has problems with gays at several institutions where he has worked. One I found is: http://www.heartstrong.org/HeartStrong/JupiterChristianIncident.html

About the posting. I know a few gays and could care less who they choose to spend their lives with. Worked with quite a few of them in the aviation industry and most are very nice people and good workers.

For a Christian school to do this is a bit much IMHO, even for this conservative. How about the other parents who are screwing around? Those who smoke pot or worse at home? Use the Lord's name in vain or slap the wife around?

None of it is good and if they are trying to make the world perfect by kicking out the gay's kids, its time to start the witch-hunt with the rest of the parents. Oh yea, I would start with Mr. Stob and see what he has hidden in his closet to start with.
