So what dikes failed in Texas? I think the situations are very different and the local gov of New Orleans was flooded out once the dikes failed. The slow response time of the Federal gov (5 days) is the big crime in New Orleans. The Rep hacks in FEMA appointed by Bush had no idea how to respond to the crisis. Geoff

The only thing that is made clear from these events is that the legacy of Huey Long lives and breathes in Louisiana. The state and local governments are corrupt to the bone and ineffectual in a crisis. I'm no fan of our President, but this failure falls squarely in the lap of Louisiana leadership.

Moses is so correct in that Huey Long is still alive in Louisiana. The pervasive mindset of "gettin' sompin for nutin" is still very much alive and well down here. Only now, some of that has been spread across other parts of the nation located in shelters.
