Bombing at Univ of Oklahoma a terrorist action?
Just received an email from a friend who is in the Tx/Ok area and has done some law enforcement work in the past.
He says that the proof is coming out shortly that the bomb blast at the Oklahoma City stadium over the past weekend was a terrorist bombing. Wonder if the news media has been told to hold on putting this out on the news feed? He goes on to state that the bomber tried to get inside the stadium and was refused entry because backpacks were not allowed. He evidently returned to the parking lot and was attaching the explosives to his body to be able to get into the stadium when it detonated. The police found additional explosives in his backpack and detonated them in place. Seems that the bomber lives in an apartment complex that houses a large Muslim popluation. Chance or was this another terrorist action here in the US? Large or small it does not matter, it could be a probing of the sports complex to see how to do it on a larger scale at a different place with more people. Interesting... Scary... why do these things happen in Oklahoma?
I'm inclined to think not terrorist, given the guys name is most likely Joel Henry Hinrichs III. I am guilty of racial profiling... http://www.guardian.co.uk/worldlatest/story/0,1280,-5317456,00.html

According to our local media/newspaper Daily Oklahoman, it was a suicide without political motives.
Joe, please don't take this the wrong way but I sincerely hope you are wrong with regards to his motivation/actions. As for why this happens in OKC... 1995 - We had the unfortunate characteristic of being considered an easy target with major interstates running six different directions out of the greater downtown area. 2005 - If it was simply a suicide then a very troubled person chose an incredibly public and dangerous (to anyone who could have been near) solution to kill his private demons.

By the way here's the story I was referring to from our local media.
==================================== Father says bomber wasn't politically motivated NORMAN (AP) - A University of Oklahoma student who died when an explosive device he was carrying detonated near a packed football stadium wasn't politically motivated, his father said Monday. Joel Henry Hinrichs III, 21, died Saturday when the device attached to his body exploded about 8 p.m. while Hinrichs sat on a bench outside George Lynn Cross Hall, officials said. The blast could be heard inside the stadium less than 100 yards away where more than 80,000 people attended OU's game against Kansas State. Hinrichs' father, Joel Hinrichs, Jr., said he's confident his son didn't intend to harm anyone and wasn't motivated by a political agenda. "He was pretty disengaged from politics," the father said Monday in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. "And he took the care to select an open area where there was no one around." His son also had an interest in explosives, Hinrichs said. "Every little boy does that," he said. "He went a little further than most." Hinrichs said his son did not leave a suicide note and that FBI agents told him hydrogen peroxide was used to construct the bomb. On Sunday, FBI investigators searched the younger Hinrichs' Norman apartment and his family home in Colorado Springs, Colo. As a father, Hinrichs said he wants to believe that the explosion was an accidental death, but said the evidence clearly points to suicide. "He was checking out," Hinrichs said. FBI spokesman Gary Johnson said officials were not yet releasing any additional details about the incident. Donald Hamilton, interim director of the Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism in Oklahoma City, said it appears Saturday's incident was not an act of terrorism. "Scholars of terrorism immediately and categorically exclude irrational acts from their definition of terrorism," Hamilton said. "Terrorists have purpose. They have motive. It's just as simple as that ... and if that is not present, it's not terrorism." On the OU campus Monday, students returned to classes and the south oval where the suicide took place was reopened. The bench where authorities say Hinrichs was sitting was removed and a new one was installed. Those who were evacuated from the apartment complex where Hinrichs lived were allowed to return home after bomb squad members performed controlled explosions of items connected to the case. There were no immediate plans to modify security operations at the stadium, but the possibility likely will be discussed at a regular briefing on Wednesday, said Kenny Mossman, a spokesman for the OU athletic department. Funeral services for Hinrichs will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Lutheran Church of Colorado Springs, his father said.

I pray that I never lose one of my children for any reason and do not know how I would react if I did.
Perhaps this persons father still hasn't come to terms with the loss, but his quotes above seem very strange and detached as if he were discussing an event that happened half way around the world. Anyone agree?

"But then arnt all the terrorists who blow themselves up a Darwin award?"
- This guy sounds like he always got picked last for sports teams and no self respecting terror group would have him. Stupidity is a prerequisite for a Darwin. Having said that it is now obvious the guy had mental/psychological issues which render him inelligible for consideration. "...father still hasn't come to terms with the loss, but his quotes above seem very strange and detached as if he we discussing an event that happened half way aroung the world." - agree, father sounds like he is in shock/denial or wasn't much of a father. Sad.

Osama found himself at the pearly gates, and just then George Washington came up and busted his knee caps with a rifle butt. As Osama fell Thomas Jefferson came up and gouged one of his eyes out. As Osama looked up at St. Peter with a WTF look Thomas Payne came up and cracked his skull. God then told Osama, I said when you died, you'd be met by 72 Virginians. what did you think I said?
