Most pistols used for rapid fire competition are .22 short. Quality ammunition and proper cleaning keeps jams to a minimum.
I carried and practiced with a 22 auto (Beretta 70s) extensively for a long period. I found that my particular pistol only jammed, and that very rarely when it needed a clean, with Winchester. No jams with more sprightly ammunition such as yellow jackets or better quality such as RWS. I found exactly the same with the target pistol I was using at that time, a FAS 602. Many people who own and carry guns are not interested in pistols or shooting so don't use or maintain properly. Just my opinion and experience.
