You're right Leland - in the "old days" (pre approx Iraq rather than the last election, I reckon) the political threads were way tamer. Possibly/probably a good thing.

Mind you, they weren't all tame, remember this?:

Hehe, I made the Bill Clinton login, but I've forgotten the password.

Things can get a bit tiresome here, but I enjoy having a go with the neocons. I don't let is get under my skin, and I hope other don't either.

I'll buy any neocon on here a beer.

Compared to most forums dedicated to motoring hobbies, this is by far occupied with people more mature, intelligent and helpful than any other I have seen.

OT can be rough at times when emotions get carried away - but thats the way it is in real life too and its easy enough to exit at will.

This place stands as a good example to other forums. It rocks !

Jeez, I thought we were all having fun here. At least I am, or I wouldn't be here. This is the only board I am somewhat active on. The others I just lurk.

There are some people here that can express themselves verbally very well. It's not the usual stupid string of smiley icons bouncing around holding signs.

Eat $hit, Leland!

....but seriously.... I remember the good ol' days. They were wonderful. Some of you guys weren't here then, but the technical forum was a bit magical. Truly. Really witty, helpful guys. TONS of camaraderie. Enormously helpful. it got to the point where a guy who broke down on the road was likely to see a Pelicanhead in person within a half hour, anywhere in the nation. Then I came over here and found you buttheads and it's been downhill ever since.

.....but seriously, I'd also agree that this forum, with all its rancor, is stll two cuts above. We're certainly more mature than just about any other, and in spite of our disagreements, I'd drop everything to help any one of these guys and I think they'd do the same for me. Some of the most vicious attacks have been me whacking on Island, and he has forgiven me each time. So far. We see each other in person occasionally. So no, I don't think this is out of control. To an outsider it might seem that way, but we're a family that cannot be judged by an outsider.

And BTW, for those of you who do not remember those good ol' days, Leland Pate is the founder of SCWDP for a reason. Some of his posts and wacky antics have been WAY WAY over the top. I especially remember the Pimpmobile and the bunny stories. I still tell the bunny stories.

My thoughts exactly!

Disagreement about ideas leads to great discussion/debate. Things are pretty boring if disagreement is not allowed on a forum like this.

I used to hang out on a Pontiac Grand Am BBS, then a Paintball BBS. Some of the antics I saw on those boards make this place look very tame, but most of the people on those boards were from 13-16 years old. I didn't engage in arguments on those boards, period. Banning happened several times an hour.

I do argue here because people here know how to argue. I'm guilty of getting a little too empassioned and resorting to name calling, and I have tried to step away and apologize in every instance. I find the debate here very intellectually stimulating, and it has refined my beliefs and debunked some of my misconceptions.

This board is really a cut above the rest, no question in my opinion.

(I haven't played paintball since April. I still have my Autococker and Bushmaster locked away in my paintball cabinet...)

The politics dies down over the weekends I've noticed. It's then that you can post funny or unusual things and not get them kicked to page two in a single day.

This is all due to the multiple 924 ripping posts that went on here. A FEW Pelicans just could not resist attempting to ridicule some people that happen to enjoy their 924's (I enjoy mine by the way). I do not think the normal banter here had anything to do with the recent comments on other boards. Many cannot resist a little rip here and there (myself included) but a couple guys here probably went too far with this, hence the disdain showing up on the other boards.

Yeah, why trash 924s? 914s are even worse.

It seems like we've had enough of a conservative uprising around here that the lefties have gotten a bit of an education, and can no longer railroad the conversation like they used to. As a result, there have been fewer of their threads full of incoherent rambling and insults.

This is proof that either they can be educated, or that when alternative ideas are presented, liberals will recoil into the darkness from wence they came.
