Citizens Writing Laws

I think there is some sort of TV show now or something I've overheard somewhere about ordinary people making suggestions about what new laws to write. The premise is "If you could write a new law, any law, but only one, what new law would you write? Okay, I'm askin'.

For me, it'd probably be simply to restrict the subject of a Bill to the title. That's the law under which the Washington State Legislature operates. The subject of a bill cannot outstrip the title. So, there is no adding pork to an unrelated bill. I would apply this limitation to Congress.

I'd probably want to pass something that forbids added on clauses and 'riders' to bills. You know, the little BS things that get tacked onto a bill that has nothing to do with the intent of the bill itself?

Either that, or I'd pass a bill clarifying the 2nd Amendment to mean it's an individual right that cannot be denied to non criminal US citizens. Repeal all of the BS laws on the books, save for the background check at point of sale. (that's the only one that makes a decent amount of sense)

I think the Federal Government should be restricted in the same way as our state. I saw the line-item veto as a good step in that direction but, in retrospect, don't think it would be nearly enough. Not when the fox is watching the henhouse. So, I agree. If I could only write one, I think that would have the most impact.

we don't need any more people writing laws. Our state has 475 yahoos already writing them.

Superman, you know I disagree with you on many political ideas, but with this one, I agree 100%.

I think we already have far too many laws. We don't need anymore.

As such. Each legislative session (state and federal) should begin by reading, in full, each law that is already on the books. They cannot vote on any new laws until all of the old ones are read.

I believe that not a single legislature in this country would finish the reading within a session...

Depending on the radius of the turn, I have to do that in my F150 to not go over the curb or into oncoming traffic.

Paul,

You finally sold your Targa? One of my favorites on the board. Hope it went to a Pelican/good home.

Yes it went to a fellow Pelican Head in Chicago. The more was placed in his, and a 3.2 placed in the Black Bird and sold to another Pelican Head. My way of making two PHs happy!

I'm on the look out for a new one after I finally settle down in a place to call home. I'm waiting out hurrican season in Florida and awaiting that nice Christmas bonus check.

I think California should have a proposition that three lefts are indeed a right.
