World's first production Targa top car?

Was the Toyota Sport 800 (1965-1970) actually the world's first production targa top car?

Maybe removable roof...but not Targa. The "Targa" trademark is owned by Porsche.

This is the 1964 show car version.



Trademark name is one thing, I'm talking about production design.

I think to be fair we should figure out who first had the idea..............bet that goes way back.

Someone in another forum just said this:

Pininfarina showed a Fiat 2300 S concept car in 1963 with a targa top, but the Toyota Sport 800 was the very first production targa top car as it went in production in 1965. Of course they did not call it a targa top then, as "targa top" comes from the 911 Targa model. But the roof type was the same, it was truly a targa top car.

Triumph had a "surrey top" in 1962 for the TR-4 with both soft and hard removable top sections.
