garage floor, custom paint chips???
Hey all.
I've read a lot about people using the epoxy floor paint systems available at the DIY centers (HD Lowes, etc.). I have decided to go with the rust-oleum brand. however, i really don't like the paint chips that come with the kits. sounds like you really do need to use them, to prevent the floor from "sticking" to a tire and coming up. so....anyone have a source of where to get other colors? I've tried searching online...no luck so far. any help appreciated. Cheers, Kyle. |

The chips are to hide the blemishes in the concrete. They are just plastic chips. I suppose you could go to a party store and get that stuff people put in cards. It's close to halloween, maybe some black cats and ghosts?

i was tossed up as to what to do, I really wanted white but bought the Rustoleum gray from home depot, I put in the chips but have a buddy who did not, same difference. here is mine. I have not had one person come to the house that has not said it looked good. It does help hide if your not going to mop constantly, if its only for show, no chips. If your going to actually use it, Chips, or else the dirt will be so noticeable that people will see that instead of your beatiful floor, if you have the time and 100 rolls of tape you can do squares LOL, Good luck, i have had the rustoleom product down for a year and except where I used the bucket of the front end load to lift up itself(5000lbs on 1/4 inch of metal, nothing has chipped. so no dropping snowplws on it HEHE, good luck

I saw that Home Depot know puts this stuff down for you, it was $2.75 a sq ft for basic, and $3.75 for ultra.
Wonder how good it is? Michael

The basic looks exactly like the DIY kit, paint with colored chips thrown on top. The ultra seems to have some sort of clear top coat applied as well, plus it bumps the warranty to 5 or 10 years. Can't remember. Still at $3.75/sqft it's mightly expensive, nearly $2500 for my garage. I had a quote from some folks who do this sort of thing for a living with some real custom epoxy floors that blow doors on the HD stuff and they were $500 more expensive. Something to consider.
Look at this thread for another option VCT I actually prefer this but still haven't found the time to do the work yet - too busy on other house projects. |

You do not need the paint chips. I painted my garage and car port. The garage I used the paint chips and the car post I didn't. No problems and it holds up even outside in Houston.
I used the rustoleum kit from Home Depot. 3 kits to do a 2 car garage and the 2 car, car port.
