Avatar sizing

Alright, I give up! I have reduced a picutre down to 50x50 pixels but the file size is still too big at 36,000 bytes. How do you make it fit the requirements? TIA

I give up too. How do you get 36K into 2500 pixels?

I can't seem to figure out how some folks have clear avatars and the rest of ours are blurry.

I've always just taken the img into Photoshop CS, cropped, resized to the 50x50, then save for web and pick the one that fits the size limit.
