Bond, The New James Bond...

Alright...I'm not certain Ian Fleming and Albert Brocoli aren't spinning in their graves right about now...I mean, a blond Bond? What's next? Will Smith as 007?

dd74,

Brake lights fixed yet? Saw that too. I had heard that they were trying to go back in time for the next Bond flick and revert back to his youthful days.

I wish they did keep Brosnan..

Dave

Hey Dave - yeah, brake lights are fixed. So's the hood latch. I'm still not sure which is more important - working brake lights or a hood that might fly up toward the windshield.

Brosnan was cool. Sean Connery though, was the best.

Didja' know Roger Moore is actually older than Sean Connery?

Both have sad results..

Isn't that guy always playing a villain? He looks like a bad guy...

Which Bond made the most movies? Roger or Sean?

Bronsan was cool, but the plots they wrote him in were pretty weak.

My vote overall for best Bond films - Moore.

Roger the Saint Moore sucked as Bond...Connery played the part with just the right amount of ruthlessness..and suavy.

The first Bond pictures were the best, because it was man against man and not technicolor blow em ups...they had just the right amount of spy equipment gagets which didn't overpower the action or plots.

Connery stopped playing Bond because he didn't want to be typecast.

An interesting choice. I hear Julian McMahon (Nip/Tuck) was also in the running among the other suspects. If they are going for a darker, more serious Bond, this guy should work. Hopefully Casino Royale will not be like the last film.
Sean is, and always will be the best, but to this day my favorite film has to be On Her Majesty's Secret Service with Lazenby. His Bond was pretty close Fleming's. I would have like to see him in a couple more.

I don't know if this is true, but I heard Timothy Dalton was offered the role before Moore, but turned it down since he was only in his mid twenties.

Hey Alf, how's the 993 hunt going?

They tried the darker, grittier Bond before, with Dalton, but they didn't go all the way. They still stuffed him in a tuxedo and made him trade double-entendres with supermodels. If they really make a back-to-basics Bond, without gadgets, fancy dress, and Persian cats, I'd watch it. Read the first Ian Fleming Bond, Casino Royale, to get the mood. But he will have to dye his hair, I'm not going for a blond bimbo Bond.

A darker Bond would be a nice change, and Brosnan had that to some degree as did Dalton. But what I fear would be missing is Bond's cheekiness, his somewhat Imperialistic/above it all/racist demeanor, and of course, the womanizing. We all know how that doesn't fly today in the world's growing PC awareness.

The last thing someone wants to do to Bond is emasculate him. It's a little like pulling the carrot from Bugs Bunny's hand, and giving him a carob bar to chew on instead.

Sean Connery was the best Bond but Roger had the best movies.
Why does everybody ask me if my 911 is a James Bond car?

Mick LaSalle says Daniel Craig can do anything, and is like an English Steve McQueen. He recommends watching Layer Cake as a preview.

I really liked Layer Cake, and thought Daniel Craig did really well in it. I don't want to get into whether he'll make a good Bond or not, but if you want a good movie some night, check out LC.

Ditto on the "Layer Cake" comments from above... I think this guy will make an excellent 'dark' Bond.... the guy seems pretty moody and doesn't come across as cheery and friendly....

Also, I'm glad they didn't go for Clive Owen.

I was thinking Clive Owen as the new bond. Dark and slick lookin.

As far as the greatest Bond, without a doubt Connery. The guy is a pimp to this day.
