Shotgun for home defense.
.357 Magnum, double action with a 4" barrel for camping. Get a concealed permit if you can. Cheers, Paul. |

Jeff, You're correct... the question was never asked. I somehow misread your page 1 post... Quote:
I also agree that an aftermarket safety device is not something that I personally would purchase - but there are those people in our society who do want that. I just put it out there for information. |

I have .357 Rossi. I bought it after our old house was burglarized and they stole our .38. I like revolvers. Very simple, very easy. Wife understands how it operates.
The new gun resides in one of these (and it is bolted down): http://www.mrlock.com/locks/images/items/12880.jpg Hopefully I'll never have to get it out of the box. When we built our new house we installed a security system and lots of outdoor lights. If they want to get in the house, they will. I figure the alarm will give me 10 seconds to get the gun out of the box. I think a second option might be a 20 gauge pump shotgun. Just for fun if I bought one it would be chrome finish with the pistol grip. Of course one of those doesn't fit in the lockbox. I paid about $400 for it new. I have it loaded with .38 rounds, .357 bullets are bit much. http://www.rossiusa.com/imagesMain/H_R46102.JPG |

Great little guns by the way; couldn't make a better choice for home defense. You touched on something a lot of guys miss as well. The wife understands it and can handle it. That scores big points in my book. |
Here's my collection. You really can't go wrong with any of these: Mossberg 3000 12g.; Walther P99, 9mm, Ruger SP 101 357 Mag, CZ RAMI 40 cal. and S&W 1911 .45 ACP. Pardon the photo skills.

holy crap Paul...I don't want to know what ***** went down...
btw, do you feel that nub on the Walther when you pull the trigger? |

I second the question about the 1911. I was looking at exactly that gun for myself. Happy with it?

I keep a Louisville Slugger behind my bedroom door for less lethal but painful situations. I prefer subsonic ammo for lessening the potential for collateral casualties from penetration through adjacent walls.
My favorites: S&W Air Weight alloy .38/.357 bobbed hammer in an ankle holster Sig P228 in a inside the waistband holster 12 ga Mossberg shotgun HK-54 or MP5 |

IMHO a home defense handgun should have these things:
Night sights, an attached light and a laser. I use hollow points. the night sights lets you get on target without giving anything away, the laser is for more accurate target acquisition and intimidation, a flashlight thats weapon mounted keeps you from fumbling both a gun and a flashlight. The light also helps to identify and blind your invader or spouse/kid sneaking back home drunk etc at the same time. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1131276290.jpg |
