Okay, here's another one. Besides the obvious "what is it", what was it's mechanical claim to fame?

Bonus points: Who was the engine manufacturer for this car?

Frazer-Nash. Chain drive, no diff.
Engine is probably Anzani, could be Meadows.
My late Sister & Brother in law had a Blackburn engine TT replica, although no longer a Blackburn due to metal fatigue.

She died just before Christmas & I think the estate is putting it up for sale.
Here is a picture of it in N-Z in 2005 during the U.K. 'Nash club "Raid".
Bonus points for the Porsche conection.

Bond Equipe.
Bloody 'orrible!

dagriff...100% correct. Frazer-Nash "Chain Gang" with Anzani engine. My condolences on your sister. They had one beautiful F-N, and I'm sure it will fetch a goodly sum.

I'm stumped on the Porsche connection, though.

Quote"In 1954 the company, as AFN, started to sell Porsche cars, becoming the official importer for Great Britain in 1956. This lasted until 1965 when Porsche Cars Great Britain was set up: Aldington family members remained on the board of this company for some time. Frazer Nash is sometimes confused with Kaiser-Frazer and Nash Motors, but it is not related to them"

I wish I had the $ to buy it. The first time I rode in it as a small boy started my passion for cars & left me like this, all Toad of Toad Hall. Still feel the same about cars.

I know what the experience is like to have a ride in a really significant car...I had a ride in one of these, that my dad could have bought for $2,000, in 1969. He passed since he'd just bought a 41 Packard convertible for $1,000.

DOH!!

That's gotta be a Bristol.

Wonderful cars. Would love to get one.

dagriff 02-17-2007 09:56 AM

Yes a Bristol.
I tried to get a job there when I left school, they said they only employee skilled craftsmen, come back when you have done an apprenticship.
The factory is on the same site as BAC & Rolls-Royce aero division, apparently it is easier to walk into the guided weapons section than get passed the Bristol Car security!

Dottore 02-17-2007 10:52 AM

I seem recall that those crazy brothers from the band Oasis (whatever they names were) had a vast collection of Bristols that they flogged around the English countryside.

Meant to be one of the finest cars ever for going from A to B fast and in comfort and style. If I ever retire to Cornwall - that would have to be the ticket.
