I have and collect mostly American SxS, so I don't think I can be a whole lot of help. By the pictures and stamping, it looks like a basic gun similar to a field grade Ithaca but with the french stamping it might be a "Guild" gun made in Belgium due to the stamps on the fluid steel barrels "acier inexplosible" which can also signify that it was manfuactured right after WWI. Also, on the water table is stamped 618 which I take is the serial # which is low, meaning not alot of guns manufactured under the "Chevillard" name. Depending on what you paid for it, it looks like a decent gun w/o seeing the interior of the barrels. Although 16ga. is not a popular gauge, I myself like it and it does have a "cult" following having lost it's desirability after the rules for skeet and trap placed it in the same catagory as the 12 ga. which gave it a disadvantage. As long as it's light, shoots well and holds up, it should be a great upland gun for you. Sorry I coul;dn't shed more light but maybe you can try the 'Double Gun Journal" and they can give more info.

Hey Craig. Yes I too collect mostly American doubles. Ithaca's and Lefever's, as they are still affordable. I picked up a grade 4 Flues last week, then this weekend I found this little froggy. When I saw this on the table my first thought was an Ithaca NID. It's a keeper. The double gun BBS has given me about the same info as you ..I find that very credible.

The Barrels are marked St Ettitiene...which would lead me to believe they were made there...

I am not a shotgun man...I only have a few LCs, Parkers....and a Fox.

That would qualify you Tabs. Now you need an Uncle Dan to round out that collection.
