Image capture from video question

Is there a way to capture images from a video file? When I run a video through Windows Media Player or Real Player, hit Printscreen and import it into photoshop, it's like I'm capturing everything but the video image itself. It's like there's two layers, and the one I can manipulate is everything except the video image, which kind of lurks in the background. The thumbnail at the bottom of the photoshop workspace shows a blackspace where the video image is. Earlier today I was doing it and it worked like a charm, but not before and not after. Frustrating!

there is a way to do it, but I've never tried, and I'm not sure if it requires different software than media player. I'll try searching google.

here
several links with directions

http://www.google.com/search?q=video+still+capture+media+player

the first link tells you how to do it by changing a setting in media player.

premier can export a series of frames as bitmaps/jpegs, mplayer can disect a video/dvd quite nicely (and i think theres even a win32 version)
