Minor point...the retired Special Forces LtCol that was in charge of hunting for OBL in Afghanistan was on one of the news shows about a month ago and said that OBL is NOT on dialysis, that there was a suspicion that he might be based on how he appeared in some of the videotapes but it proved false. Bad intel...imagine that.

It's been this way for thousands of years. No reason to think it's changed now, or ever will.

Since the rank of general is more or less a political appointment...for most armies that would only create a much more effective fighting force.

The reason that worked in the past is that the only ones who really benefited from war were the military leaders.
