Just saw Rent - the movie

Wow! Loved the music, pretty good acting too. Could've done without a couple of scenes (see it and you'll know what I mean). It'll probably win an Oscar for best score, maybe even best picture. Never did see the play but I'm gonna when it's in town.

You real macho guys should probably stay away from this flick.

Its the only play I've ever walked out of. At intermission, I turned to my wife and said something like "So this play is about people who want to live in someone else's building, expect to not have to pay rent, and who are drug addicts and gays with AIDs?" Or something along that line. We got some disparaging looks from others in earshot, and we left, it was our anniversay, and we had more fun at home afterwards. Not very PC in Los Angeles I guess.

All I can say is wow, Hugh, you grew up way to fast brother.

Loved the musical when I saw it in SF, though I've heard the reviews for the movie have been mixed (http://www.rottentomatoes.com).

there have got to be some good parts of this movie: like every moment Rosario Dawson is on the screen...

LOL, Hugh...we walked out of "Jekyll & Hyde". What a dismally awful musical.

I remember when Jekyll was about to drink his potion, the lyrics were something along the lines of:

"This is the moment
This is the drink
I'm going to drink the drink
This is the moment
This is the drink
I'm going to drink the drink
This is the moment
This is the drink
I'm going to drink the drink
This is the moment
This is the drink
I'm going to drink the drink
This is the moment
This is the drink
I'm going to drink the drink
This is the moment
This is the drink
I'm going to drink the drink"

After this went on for about 20 minutes I leaned over to my date and said, "When is he going to shut the fcuk up and drink the damn potion already?"

That's when we walked out.

Rent is one of my favorite shows- I have only seen it about 6 times, including flying up to see many of the original cast members last shows. I thought the movie was very well done. A couple of the scenes were a little overdone. The "frozen breath" effect was overdone- I they all looked like they had extremely bad breath or had an alien life form that was trying to escape. If you liked the braodway show, or if you like broadway type productions in general it is a must see. If not, the new Harry Potter movie is supposed to be ok.

I'd never heard of her before. For best results, your google search terms are: +"Rosario Dawson" +actressass.com +Alexander

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Would rather eat dirt or pay taxes than sit through any of these three...

I went with my wife, very moving. she cried afterwards, unrequited love and al that I guess. I enjoyed it very much, I laughed out loud a few times too. Mind expanding and a very diff perspective. but then we dress up and go to Ballet and Opera too. She trained in ballet classicaly for many years so she loves this stuff. A few days before we went to see Jarhead too, its all entertainment.
1 thumb up for Rent.

I can't stand plays, musicals, opera, ballet... Saw Stomp about 10 years ago and liked that. Saw Blue Man Group about 5 years ago and liked it enough but would never see it again. The only live shows I like are concerts and stand up. Hate parades too.
