My Most Excellent Turkey Day

Everyone describes their perfect day differently. Here's mine.
I was going to meet the crew up on Mulhulland for a little coffee and chatter but couldn't make it that early.
I loaded my favorite kayak and headed to Long Beach.
I've never put in there so it was all new to me. I ended up in Naples about 10am. Very beautiful place.
I put in in the marina and made my way out to the Pacific.
Here's some pics of my day.

Great view of Long Beach from offshore

Coast Guard at speed.

Paddle far enough west and this is your view of Southern Cali.

L.A. traffic on my way home

Even though this looks like a lot of fun, you need to get your rear in a sailboat!

Damn you California pelicanites. It's snowing here.

Looks like a great day, glad you enjoyed it. Now go out and buy a sailboat. Maybe a good used Cal 25... inexpensive, pretty roomy, easy to handle and funky 60's design.

San Diego was a bit cool and overcast most of the day, but warmed up and burned off in the afternoon.

Houston would have been nice too: 80F high.

just a coincidence but next to the beach where I put in was a little yacht club that offered boat rental and lessons. I'm sure I'll be headed back there and will look into lessons. Being out in the kayak is great but I'd really enjoy being out there with my girls along. The harbor is huge while well protected by a sea wall. It would be the perfect place to learn to sail.

Right after Christmas is the best time to buy a boat! Start looking now!

Forget the keelboat until you learn to sail in an unballasted dinghy...you'll never regret it.

Had a great Thanksgiving myself. Drove out to my sisters place in the 914, avoiding a ticket on Madison going fast enought to make a CHP turn around and get his quota of stupid people in orange cars for the day. Ducked into a side street before he could turn around and he lost me. They have repaved all the roads on the way to my sis's place, out by Folsom Lake, so it was a nice drive overall. Played horseshoes, but it was not so warm I had to change to shorts. Did Turkey at the P&M's palatial home. Hope all is well for y'all. It is raining today, so I am not driving the Porsche today, maybe that will make you snow victims cheer up a bit

Long Beach! What are you insane! You were lucky to get out of there alive!

JUST KIDDING... San Pedro is right next to Long Beach.

Kevin, the Los Angeles harbor is where I used to sail my Hobie cat... and my dad's dingy back when I was a teenager. I have been toying with the idea of getting a small cat I can sail by myself.

Tell me that's not a Chesapeake Light Craft boat!

I've built a few of those but even more of these.

Yep it's a CLC 17LT. When I first got interested in building my own boat they were the only kit suppliers I knew of(net search and printed periodicals). Since then I've met a lot of people who seem to prefer the Pygmy boats. I'm happy with CLC boat but to be fair it is the only kit boat I've built.
