Question Subwoofer Amplifiier help

My son's car has blown out 2 Amps driving the subwoofer in 1 1/2 years! The amps are driving signal from a 4 channel system with no amps on the normal channels, so I don't think the bass amps are being over driven. It's single speaker bass woofer with a 10" or 12" speaker that was supplied with the first amp as a set, the brand was Lighning Audio. The second amp was recommended and installed by Car Toys here locally, it only lasted about 3 months.

I want to get him another for a gift but I want something that will last, without spending big bucks. No 1000 watt megamonsters, just something that will fill out the sound relliably. Any recommendations?

Sounds like impedance mismatch.
Make sure the impedance of the speaker is within specs of the amp.

Amps blowing is an odd one - it usually isn't a problem. Is it getting too hot? Usually they just shut down for a while if they do.
