Rick - if the reader was once uncertain about the quote, it's been rectified by Len with his explanation. I simply hinted at it, and feel that for the most part, I was correct, based partly on the differing political views belonging to Matt and Len. The quote does not just say what it says. It is there for a subtle but much more substantial reason. If at all, it is bizarre to quote another forum member in one's signature. Jesus, if this was a Jihad website, a person might think the two guys were going steady or something...

So initially, yes, they were my thoughts. Bizarre presentations in signatures are noticeable to me. All I needed was to know was its meaning; why it was there, and I received that from Len.

As far as use of the words "libel," and "slander," and the term "bad form," well that's just to hook in as many posters as possible to add to the thread count.

Now, pardon me whilst I go off to see the Steelers lose. SmileWavy

I don't see how this could be considered libel or slander....and it really doesn't seem to have a problem as far as context. I am somewhat surprised that this is an issue. It seems that the words of the administration as well as many posters are misrepresented (apparently intentionally) daily in this forum...and it doesn't seem to bother most posters here who happily repeat the misrepresentations or post their agreement.

Judging by the spelling, it looks like it was from one of our friends who drives on the wrong side of the road. Most of those folks seem to be well informed. I imagine that quote -- if genuine -- was taken out of context.

Many of us know that many of the group are on the wrong side of the road, whether in a car or otherwise, and we pray for all of you often. Hopefully someday it will work...

I you are genuinely offended by the generalization then you can assume you're the exeception.
Or could it possibly be that the generalization is false? I personally am both 'conservative' and 'liberal' (depending on the issue), but imo the generalizations and labelling (from BOTH sides) on most issues tend to keep me on the sidelines in most of these debates. I don't find it constructive at all, and fail to see the point. Extreme political views (both left and right) with total disregard to those who might respectfully disagree, imo are a great disservice to MOST of us...help me understand.

Interesting discussions, the Steelers did get destroyed BTW, man do I hate the Steelers:)

I'm going to pull the quote (without admission of wrongdoing or malice:)) as I don't need the drama. The whole thing was that I feel Matt was just being honest as a liberal and that his sentiments exist in most liberals to some degree. It makes them feel "broad-minded" or "non-judgmental" a couple pillars of the left.

Either way I'll find another quote later today, maybe I'll really stir the bees nest::)

I don't have a problem with the quote in your signature at all. I have no idea where Matt is coming from, but here's my take on his quote. I absolutely despise terrorists (who doesn't?), but since the 'spin doctors' have seemingly labeled everyone fighting in Iraq in that fashion, I do empathise. I can just imagine if a foreign force was occupying our homeland (kind of like the British did a couple centuries ago), I (and almost everyone I know) would be fighting them with everything we had at our disposal. In other words, I don't believe for a minute that 'they' are all terrorists (albeit some of them ABSOLUTELY are), but some are simply defending THEIR homeland against an invading force.

Dont' do it Len!! Don't let DA MAN bring you down! Freedom of speech and all that stuff.

A 16 year old kid gets all sorts of support for his booty shakin avatar but Len gets lambasted for a quote in his sig...

Sure, I think Matt is being honest and he confirms what most liberals truly believe. There is a severe "self loathing" of the US at heart of the leftist movement. Though many if not most a leftist feel that the US is a cancer on the ass of the civilized world few admit it in public. Rather most cry crocodile tears of "don't challenge my patriotism" knowing full well the truth of the accusation.
Thanks. No, I don't think the US is a cancer. Have we done things poorly, yes. Have we done things without regard to the sanctity of other people's lives, yes. But the world is a better place for us. It might have been an even better place had we done things better.

I think that generalization, and I will generalize here, comes from a view that the US can do no wrong by definition, and that we should not try to learn from our mistakes, because that would mean acknowledging them. Rather we should proceed in our manifest destiny to bring the rest of the world under our control, for their own good.
