Telepathy - the strangest (yet great) thing happened, don't know what to make of it.

The following incident happened and I have not been able to shake it.

The other night, our 6yr old found his way into our bed at around midnight. This happens almost everynight between 11 and 5am. I know, some will be OK others will say it isn't...what ever. Anyway, I'm wide awake staring at the clock and thinking while my wife and son are sawing logs. I sometimes will think of the various things I want to tell the kids - I don't know why I do this but I do. Well sometimes I play out what they will say and then how I will respond. In my mind I was telling the Boy something and I thought to myself "Just listen lil buddy and trust me". Right after I thought that my son woke up and said "Dad, I am listening!". I was surprised to say the least. My wife woke up at this (he said it rather loudly). I asked him, "Max, did you hear me say something or did you think I said something?" "Dad, I heard you say it in my head now go back to sleep".

Needless to say I have been trying to keep semi-pure thoughts! What do you make of it? Has anything like that evevr happened to any of you?

Mike,

I have been told that most if not all people are able to do things that we do not totally understand. As well most people are said to be psychic at one point or another in life. I was into this a bit when in college as well as until about 30 or so, then too damm busy with life and work.

What I was told is that almost everyone has this ability but most are either afraid of it or do not want to or cannot handle it. I doubted what they said then they did a small experiment and proved it to me. Needless to say it was interesting. Have not fiddled with it since but the possibilities are endless. I do not like to talk about it much as others are skeptical about it or just plain do not believe it. Do not need the hassle so why discuss it.

Several times a month I find myself sitting with someone and planning out my next move, usually in the cockpit of the plane, when suddenly they say the exact thing that I am thinking. Its happened far too many times for it to be chance. Whether I am pulling in a thought from them or vice versa, who knows.

Regarding your son, he is small and knows nothing but that he picked up something from Dad. Would do some reading on it if you are interested. There is lots out there if you want to learn more...

Joe A

PS regarding the "semi pure" thoughts, its not worked with getting the girls to bring me a beer or other more interesting activities yet so good luck!

Do you talk to yourself at work? If so, you might have been mumbling it under your breath and not reallized it. Your kid was mildly awake and heard it.

If not, next stop, Regis!

If you can pull this off in front of James Randi, he'll give you a million bucks. His money has been safe so far.

I don't think there's ever been a scientifically-verified instance of actual psychic ability. Maybe you're the first? :>)

Mike,
That is a really neat happening. You might be able to encourage and nurture this, but help him learn how to shut it off. Most people's thoughts are not something you want him to know.
Some people are far more 'tuned in' than others. There is a certain level of awareness in my family. One of my brothers-in-law refers to my sister as "The Witch", because of her ability to know things about people.
My son is particularly sensitive to what those around him are thinking. His teenage years were almost painful, until he learned to filter out the 'noise' of the school body around him. He used to refer to my thoughts as "a constant buzz" and found it quite annoying until he learned to filter.
My wife's sensitivity seems to be more 'tuned' to animals.
Aside from a tendancy to predict the sex of unborn children in people I know, (13 out of 14 correct. When I heard of the pregnancy, the 'proper' guess was the first thought that came. If I tried to think about it, I would get it wrong.) I tend not to pay much attention.

I believe that people are capable of much more than they realize, but I believe that more than likely TerryBPP was right and you mumbled something.

I often "rehearse" conversations, etc in my head like you. My wife does too, but she does it outloud, half of the time not even realizing that it's outloud. My guess is that you did the same.

Wow! Nearly the same exact thing happened with my daughter at the same age. She's eight now and it only happened once. I do believe she was listening to my thoughts.

It seems to me that our species' funny talent of speaking has some interesting implications. For example, we subvocalize when rehearsing a conversation (or in my case early in the morning when my 'filter' is turned off). But where does this subvocalization stop? Is it only in one or more parts of the brain that deals with verbal ability, or is there a latent signal that gets sent to the larynx?

Personally, I think that strong subvocalizations can be heard by someone who doesn't know not to tune them out, or when in a very quiet room. A six-year-old in a bedroom late at night is a perfect recipe for this.

Thought is a sequence of electrical firings that occur in your brain. I don't believe they can transport through air and reassimilate in another person. And, in all of modern history, science has never witnessed nor proven such an occurance. As much as I'd like to believe it can happen, I don't think it can.

hmmm... seems that if you play-out what will be said, and how, that then likely Max is genetically predisposed to do the same.

. . ..tho' perhaps Max (esp when sleepy) isn't doing such a good job of separating-out the play-out from reality. (?) --add a adash of coincidental timing, and....

I have to agree totally. Call me a skeptic (because I am), but just like alien abductions, et al, there is no evidence that this phenomenon actually occurs.

If someone out there *has* evidence or can prove psychic powers, I would suggest submitting to some sort of testing as you'll be a millionaire many times over if you can pull it off.

I'm not saying that it didn't happen, I think that sort of thing may be possible, but I doubt it did. Pretty cool either way.

Please do not think I am getting down on you, because I am not. I was told by the people who worked with me that most people felt as noted above and that was why most people would not ever be receptive to this idea.

Its worked for me in the past. Who knows about the future. Not interested in proving it or making a dime on it, just that its interesting.

Talking about the electrical firings in our brains... its said that we use about 10% of our brain power right now. What if we could increase it to 15% or even 20%? Think of what we could do in this world? Wonder if you would burn out early?

Who knows, I think that its time to hit the rack shortly!

This is actually an "urban legend". We use 100% of our brains.

I had to really go after Wayne and Lubby recently on the "Subjective"..I practically had to twist their arms to get my point across...and NOW!!!! Look at this Thread.

Oh well there really isn't anything magical about this...like Joe says man just doesn't pay attention to all his senses...

Remember Man at one time lived iwith nature where he had to pay attention to ALL his senses including his Intutive ones to survive.. When man became Civilized and started living in artifical caves called houses and added amenities he NO LONGER had to pay attention to Nature to survive. Man has come to the point where he has become seperated from nature and as a result doesn't pay attention to his intution. He now relys on a thing called Science...

There are more things that can go bump in the night than one realizes it is a big universe...
