Friggen RV!!! Must be a Ford :(

Just bought a used RV for trips back and forth to CA from CO. Took delivery today from the dealer about 1.5 hours away. Lost the damn drive shaft on the way home. If any locals have dealings with Century RV in Longmont, CO, please let me know. Luckily, I negotiated in a bumper to bumper warranty, but heck, this coach only has 32K miles on it and otherwise like new!!! Friggen Ford POS!!!

Did the drive shaft break or was it a U-Joint?

I don't have any details yet, luckily my wife was following and we all got home together. Just had to leave the RV. The vibration got really bad up front, then just gave loose. I mean, it went really quick. Whattya think the odds are that the dealership will step up and actuall do something?

Oh, and I just purchased centuryrvsucks.com, just in case.

My wife was nearly hit with flying debris and my poor 5 year old son started bawling cuz he thinks we are not gonna be able to go to grandma and grandads house for Christmas. Pretty sad

I had the rear shaft go in my blazer doing 70 on the highway. That thing slammed the floorboards for 15 seconds before it let loose, scared the crap out of my dog so much he wont go back in the truck. Nice thing was I picked up the shaft, which was no worse for wear, slapped in 2 new u-joints and was back on the road.

Sure sounds to me like making it out to be worse than it is. Hopfully its an easy fix and your back on the road. Why worry when you have the warranty just be happy no one was hurt dude.

It's a principle issue. Yeah, I am glad no one was hurt. Drive shafts can easily be turned into projectiles. The warranty company does not even have the paperwork yet. I am very lucky that things turned out the way they did, no doubt about it.

As an update, the dealer is stepping up and taking care of it, or at least they say. Tow truck should be dispatched shortly. I did not have time, nor consider being rational last night

bb80sc,

I bought my 1979 Mallard from Century last spring. I had a good experience with them, as did a friend I recommended Century too.

Be very thankful that it did not break in the front and act as a pole vault when it dug into the high way, the reason for drive shaft loops. I have had a u-joint fail as well, and it really is not fun.

I am glad everyone is ok, and hopefully the dealership fixes it for you.

Thanks! Actually, the shaft *did* fall from the front!! If there was a loop, it did not do its job. The dealership got a towtruck down first thing this morning and it's already being repaird at their shop. I am really impressed how they have stepped up. The tow truck driver was a total *billy bob*, but one of the nicest guys. I'll post an update when I have it. The people and attitudes, at least compared to SoCal, continue to impress me.
