Have you ever given your spouse/gf a car for Xmas?

Lots of commercials these days showing happy spouses receiving a car for Xmas. I can't imagine someone going out and spending > $200 for a gift, let alone a car, w/o their spouses consent. Maybe I'm whipped, I don't know, but that's how it works here. Keeps the arguments way down.

Yes, but it was a damn SUV, because that is what she wanted.

Not for Christmas, but as a graduation (from college) gift.

i am not married. but nowdays, with both people working, isnt the wife paying her share?

talking to alot of folks, i am surprised at how the holiday spirit has really dwindled among married couples. a large percentage of folks dont even exchange gifts anymore! just goods to the freeloading kids....

**** that - pun intended - there's no ***** worth $30k

For the record, I did buy a chick a car once. I was dating this mod/goth chick and I bought her a 1962 Caddy Fleetwood, which we both drove. $200 plus a new battery. I got 2 years and a lot of mileage out of both the chick and the car.

Yes, as a Valentine's Day gift as well as a 'thank you' for helping me set up my business databases/accounting.

The big ribbon was hard to find.

Yes, but for her birthday this year, not for Christmas. New BMW X3 3.0i. The dealership put the ribbon on for delivery.

Despite widebutty's cynicism, it was worth every cent, considering she gave me 3 wonderful kids and 20 years' worth of marriage. Not many women like that around.

Yes. But for an anniversary present (16yr) in June 1992. She knew I was looking, but I drove it back to the swim meet, where my oldest was competing, and put a big ribbon on it. She was quite taken aback. She loved that car and we had it 12 twelve years before we gave it to our neighbors. She still sees it everyday when she goes for a walk with the woman.

My father-in-law bought a Grand Cherokee for my Mother-in-law a few years back.

I know a former Chevy dealer who a few years ago delivered a new Corvette early Christmas morning and put a huge ribbon on it before the client's wife woke up.

Like SoCal. I got my former wife a MB. Model 200, year 1975. All I could afford at the time. She broke her thumb on the manual gear stick when it popped out of gear.

She was not impressed..

Subaru Forester Turbo. Pick it up on Wednesday. (She needed a new car anyway and it's not a surprise, but it's 2 days before Christmas so I reckon that counts)

P.S. Cool little car--it's a WRX without the insurance hassles!

Bought an Acura TL last year for my wife. Not exactly a Christmas present, as it was purchased on New Year's Eve. Also not exactly a surprise, as I wanted to make sure we didn't buy something she didn't like/want. But we had a first child coming along, so I didn't want her using my 10 year-old 2-door Nissan as a daily driver anymore.

I bought my wife a motorcycle a couple years ago, but I agree that it's really a non-gift. I was going to get it anyway so it saved me from having to buy a real "the gift".

I would never expect a car as a gift. Perhaps I'm not spoiled enough...

I'd like to buy a 993 "for my wife". "What honey, you don't like it? Oh well, I guess I'll just have to drive it."

My wife is an accountant, so I have to financially justify every purchase, even if it's for her, as well as turn in my reciepts. It's like a job, except she's meaner than any boss I've ever had. Every gift I give her, the first question is, "how much did it cost?". Puts a damper on gift giving.

WE had a 3.2 Carerra - she paid for - but mine to drive. Love is all.

If you love each other cars are insignificant, just fun for each other. Both of us enjoyed the 3.2. Lemans, Tours, Chinon, etc etc.
