How ironic that a black woman from the south is what really gets Republicans charged up.
Jesse and Al must be rolling in their graves (rather, they should be).

It's Rice's to lose. Hillary will never ever convert a single Republican to vote for her and probably few if any swing voters. She has no chance if only her base shows up to vote. Rice can get the entire GOP base plus lots of swing voters and probably some Dems. Somehow, I think the primary season could be more interesting than the general election.

She is a smart lady and certaily qualified. Personally, she make my skin crawl a bit -- I don't trust her. Given a Hillery vs. Condi battle I would probably go with Condi.

No chance of Powell running and I don't think he'd get the nomination if his wife would let him run.

Unfortunately, you are right.
I have read that he will not run. You don't think that he would get the nomination ???? Why not ?? |

Powell is a RINO. RINO's don't win primaries. Ask John McCain. Powell would unite a lot of forces against him - NRA, anti-affirm. action groups, neocons, etc. He's a great man, but should not lower himself by running for pres. and losing.

Condi has my vote, I hope to God she runs. I would LOVE to see her face Hillary in a debate, I believe that by the end she could have Hillary in tears. Wouldn't that be something to see, the first woman president, the first black president, in the same person!?

I concur Matt. Almost seems too good to be true. I can't imagine the smear campaigns the Clintonistas would pull. It would be ugly.

Right on, Matt. But beyond gender and skin color, I believe Condi is more qualified than many not just in the Bush Administration, but far, far, far more qualified than any Democrat at the moment.
Condi's only problem will be Lieberman, who I think is an opportunistic politico no better than a union leader. As for Hillary - what's she got? No one likes the woman, she's not in the headlines because the headlines are ignoring her: the one good thing the liberal-angled press has done lately... But damn! Condi went out on her own - purely solo - and brokered the Gaza strip deal two months ago in the 11th hour while everyone else was in China (I think). Also, she's as big on helping the starving as Bono, but rock singers of course get more press. In all, I think a majority of Americans are missing the real prize we have in Condi. I really liked Colin, but he was butting heads too often with Rummy and the Veep - not a good thing during a war. Condi is much smarter player, though she does march to her own tune, which is very cool.

Hillary has this secret army of PR and fundraising folks scattered throughout some major operations. ONe of them is on the board of my company....a certain former WH press sec. Bubba's last chief of staff is in my bldg. too. George Steponallofus has his own tv show. Mandy Grunwald is married to Matt Cooper. The number of local big PR firms with former Clintonistas working in their top echelons is huge. Believe me, a lot of stuff is going on now to anoint Hillary as the Dems' candidate but she will have problems getting the nomination.
I think Lieberman is more likely to become a Republican and run with Condi than against her as a Dem. He'd NEVER get the Dem nomination. He's waaaaayyyy too pragmatic, moderate and reasonable to get the wing nuts who vote in the primaries.

Then the big question is, who is president, who's VP? Funny thing is, even though I like Lieberman, I'd rather see Condi as president. The way she defended herself during her confirmation hearings, essentially shutting down and destroying all those that questioned her in a very diplomatic way, gave me a lot of respect for her.

You know what will change things? Condi appearing on Oprah, Dave, Leno. Travis Smiley on PBS would be huge for the intellectual black vote. Charlie Rose for the highbrow intellectual white Dems. Jimmy Kimmel is too stupid to know what to do with someone of Condi's level. I ask again: what does Hillary have? Who's heard from her lately?

What does Hillary have? The two most important assets she has are 100% name recognition and a husband who could have talked Oedipus into leaving home. He is a cash cow and there's no better fundraiser in the world. Another asset of Hillary's is that there is NOTHING she will not do to get what she wants. While admirable in most people, it's scary in politicians. She has a safe Senate seat and a spot on Sen. Armed Services, which allows her to point to this or that small acto of pandering to insulate her from chanrges of being anti-military. A tiger doesn't change its stripes, but a lot of young folks will be voting age in 2008 who don't remember the early Clinton days. They will believe her bs. Look at her recent attempt to ban flag burning!!!! That's the ultimate chutzpah/pandering. She'd make Al Gore blush. She has all of Hollywood firmly behind her, she will have unlimited money, she'll have the news media on her side, she'll have the woman-scorned sympathy card to play and she is RUTHLESS.
What irks me is that Hillary has never ever once faced a tough question. When she started running for Senate, everyone said how the NY press would eat her alive. She never got a tough question. She doesn't hold press conferences now either and no one ever calls her on it. I've seen Rumsfeld make her look foolish when she was questioning him once, but that's about it. All the Republicans in the Senate fall all over each other saying how nice, smart, effective, blah blah she is. I can't wait to see her use some of that footage in a commercial. She has a LOT going for her. Don't (in Bush's inimitable words) "misunderestimate" her.

Fortunately, most young people don't vote. I think the bulk of the nation sees her as the ruthless b!tch that she is, and will see through her PR. At least, I hope. Really, what qualities does she have that qualify her for president? She snuck into a pud senate seat based on the strength of her name, nothing more, where Condi has worked her ass off to be where she is today. I think when the tough questions start to come, eventually the public will see through her. They did Kerry, even though he "had a plan".

But the response from Condi - and after she distances herself a bit from Bush - would be, "Who was on the ground, in the Mid-East? Who's been in the Oval Office? Who has the experience? Who has the name recognition associated with world politics?" It'd be a slam dunk even if Hillary were nominated. But even so, I see more Lieberman than Hillary. Now a Lieberman/Condi Rice ticket? I'd feel it to be unfortunate for Condi. Lieberman looks like he could crack while under pressure.
