First, no one said it would be easy. Almost nothing in life that is worthwhile is easy.

Second, we are doing a heck of a lot more than "asking them to stop, nicely." This is a constant refrain I see on this board from the admin supporters. For instance, either we allow illegal wiretaps on American citizens, or we allow ObL to blow up Seattle. It's like they have a black switch and a white switch in their brains, and can't contemplate anything more nuanced.

Finally, we will not continue to be a beacon of freedom and democracy if we continue along this path. Warrantless spying on Americans, indefinite detentions of Americans without charges or trial or counsel, secret torture facilities around the world, and numerous other policies of this administration push us closer to a repressive, authoritarian regime than a free democracy.

All of this has been done before.

All of it will be done again.

The way I read it, the Constitution guarantees rights to citizens. It doesn't say anything about anyone else.
This is why it is not unconstitutional to deny a driver's licence to an illegal alien. Though a few years ago I recall the 9th Circus Court saying it was unconstitutional to deny free healthcare and education to illegal immigrants, so maybe they do have the same rights as a citizen.

So say we are at war with a country, Canada, because they sell Maple Syrup too cheap and are bankrupting Vermont. If a Canadian citizen is captured, driving copper spikes into Maple trees to destroy our ability to produce Syrup, do they go to jail or do they go to military prison? We are not really talking about crime, we are talking about a war.
