Need a little help - English isn't my primary language

What is meant by "come to Jesus meeting"? What are you referring to when you say "baby Jesus"? Thanks and I am being serious.

When I tell people I'm going to have a "Come to Jesus" meeting, that means that I'm so fed up with a situation that I hold nothing back during the meeting--naming names, placing blame, etc. Don't know the origin. That's what it means to me. The Baby Jesus thing I've never heard of. "Goddammit" works much better for me...

I believe a "come to Jesus meeting" is a business term where you get people in a team or company together and re-commit to a given strategy. The environment would be commitment-oriented and perhaps emotional. To use another metaphor: get everyone on the same page. I think it can also have overtones of eliminating dissent.

RallyJon explained it much more eloquently than I. Eliminating dissent is a common goal.
Christian.

OK, I understand the "come to Jesus" thing though I still don't get the reference. What about "making baby Jesus cry"?

I always think of a come to Jesus meeting with respect to employment. For example, a supervisor might say, "John Doe and I are going to have a come to Jesus metting." I take it to mean that it is the final discussion on a matter, if we talk about the subject again, the employee will be discharged.

I agreed with the eliminating dissent part. I was told it meant your head would be held under the river until you 'come to Jesus'. Like being baptized in the river of excrement that your boss is constantly flowing.

You had to grow up in the south to get the "Come to Jesus Meeting" thing. Its sort of a reference to the Baptist traveling Tent revival holy roller meetings were a traveling preacher would have these really powerful, fire and brimstone type of your going to burn in hell revival meetings in a small town, and then move on to the next town.

That was pretty much my understanding.

You had a "come to Jesus" talk with someone as the last resort then if it did not work you were finished playing around.

It was one talk that you did not want to have until the chips were down...
