Yea, yesterday i saw Firemen with suits on running around our company. We joked about anthrax, but today we found out that firemen actually had come here to reclaim suspicious letter.
I even saw the letter and walked right by it, but did not check where it was from. I heard it had came from England to a person who has never even worked in our company. And furthermore, our company has changed it name and the letter came with the old name. We have not gotten the results back if it really was "real" or just a hoax. So far I have not seen nor heard any real Anthrax letters in Finland. There have been fake ones and that is why our post systems are a bit stalled right now. Hoax or not, I feel that my tongue is a bit swollen and my co-worker just took a sick leave because she was having a fever and her infection "values" were very high. Freaky. ------------------ //Zen B-faster.com to come Porsche gallery. |

People are over-reacting to the news completely out of proportion to the threat! Everyone should be glad it was Anthrax, and not some of the really nasty bio-toxin strains out there ... or in the govt. labs, to be precise! Now, if it had been a form of hemoragic fever, like Ebola, that really would be scary!

Thank god its bacteria, if it were a virus it would be lot tougher to isolate.
Anthrax was detected in late sixties, and therefore vaccinations have been stopped ages ago. Good to know there is a cure though. Still nasty. |

Even better, read Andromeda Strain, then rent the video! Probably Michael Crichton's best work ever!

The importatnt thing is you can identify and
treat any sickness caused by Anthrax. I agree with Warren News Media is blowing this way out of porportion. All leading stories and same thing over and over again. ------------------

The fine-milled stuff is right out of Iraq via Russia. It is the particulate size and ability to become airborne that is a big problem.
They will run out of it when we bomb the hell out of Iraq. That's next. Jw |

As previousely posted Anthrax can be treated very effectively. It is actually pretty hard to contract. Our Fire Dept. Haz Mat unit averages about 10 calls a month, we have already ran 46 calls in the past week. hysteria at its finest. One of the funnier ones was a lady stating that a "granular" substance was found on a magazine she just recieved. A full HAZ MAT response which includes 2 engines, haz mat unit, truck, ambulance and Battalion Chief responded. To make a long story short, she had spilled salt on her coffee table prior to sitting the magazine down. One of my favorite syaings is "Common sense...is not so common".

I work in the Nat. Press Bldg. in Wash. DC and I'm amazed we haven't seen such a threat yet in this place. We're two blocks from the White House, which made 9/11/01 a particularly exciting day to go out onto the sidewalks. Anthrax is nothing compared to Smallpox. The former is incommunicable, while the latter is not. I think this will get worse before it gets better.

Another good book about the same situation is the Cobra event, I believe it is by the same author as the "Hot Zone" by Richard Preston

heh, I read from todays paper that people have taken Reader's Digest's to the police station in fear of anthrax. I would say that's a bit of an exaggeration.

The media always overhypes this crap. First we have to see the 2nd jet colliding 27x/hour, now Anthrax, Anthrax, Anthrax!!!!!! CNN.com did an online opinion poll "How do you feel about the media coverage of the anthrax scare?" - after my vote, the tally was 69% "TOO MUCH COVERAGE." Unfortunately they didn't take the hint- the current headline is all caps: "ANTHRAX IN AMERICA." -vent off- ------------------ Dave '72 911T to '73 RSR Replica Project |
