Unhappy But...I'm your friend..

From Brit Hume:

Marion Mugged

Quote:
D.C. council member Marion Barry was robbed at gunpoint inside his home this week, but he's not angry. Instead, he says his feelings are hurt. Barry, who went to jail after he was caught smoking crack during his third term as mayor, says, "There is a sort of an unwritten code in Washington, among the underworld and the hustlers and these other guys, that I am their friend," adding, "I was a little hurt that this betrayal did happen."

He's calling for his assailants to give themselves up, saying, "I don't even want you prosecuted, really. I love you."
WTF ?!? How does this loon keep getting elected?

Safety in numbers? Maybe the perp wanted a crack pipe and Berry was not ready to give it up just yet?

This guy should have been sent to the big house for a long time yet "his people" wanted him back so justice was changed to fit.

I just wonder what it will be like in DC should someone fire off a dirty weapon. Where will they all go now that they cannot live in their old slum for several thousand years...

Coming from you, nicest compliment I have gotten in years! Maybe they will come up NE to your neck of the woods and squat? Bring Berry with them?

We sure do not want them out here. DC has the highest crime rate of the whole country, yet refuse to allow its citizens to have a weapon to protect themselves. Elected officials are part of the problem and its a welfare state in itself.

Its all yours so enjoy...

First, the article must be a hoax. Possession of guns in DC is prohibited by law so it could not have happened.

Second, it makes you wonder why he would not want to procesute. Just what does the perp have on Marion? Maybe Marion is still chasing the dragon and a drug deal went bad?

Marion Berry is black, and a Democrat (of sorts). Thus any aberrant behavior he exhibits, from crack-smoking to insane comments like those pointed out in this post, is not only excused, but celebrated by the white liberal elites who never miss an opportunity to patronize blacks in order to keep them on their leftist "plantations".

Look, I don't care whether he's a Democrat, a liberal or a crack smoking idiot. But for someone to make the above statements, there is something seriously wrong with him.

Or he buys into the "code among theives" thing...too bad the street crooks didn't.

I think you pretty well nailed it. The fact that a mayor that has been caught smoking crack keeps getting re-elected tells me all that I need to know about the DC populace.

Funny how there's all this arm chair quarterbacking coming from folks who aren't even from nor near DC. Typical

Then enlighten us. What is it that is so special about the DC area that makes it ok for your mayor to smoke crack? Ignore the stuff about him getting robbed, that just makes him look like a moron. I'd like to know how a man caught comitting a serious crime is qualified to be the mayor of our nation's capitol. Beyond even the criminal aspect, do you really want a man high on crack making major decisions that affect millions of people?

Par, to add to what Matt said above, which I agree with, he was caught on video smoking crack, then returned to office after a slap on the hand. Now it is right in the thick of things there again and they still want him around.

Please explain it to us, the taxpayers of the country that pay a lot of the bills for the DC and who would love to know why and what in the hell is going on up there.

At this point, he's only a councilman, but I agree with the sentiment. He always claims he was "setup" by the FBI, etc, and a lot of people buy into the conspiracy theories.

What you have to understand about DC is that after the civil war, a lot of the former slaves moved there, probably thinking that they'd have a better life, etc. South East has been, and continues to be, one of the worst slums in the United States. When I lived in Alexandria (other side of the Potomac), DC was the Murder Capital of the US with 10-15 minutes of local news devoted to this murder or that, or a follow up.

DC is not really a city. It isn't in a state. It is a protectorate area controlled exclusively by the US government and congress. The Mayor/City Council really has little or no power. The people who live there do not have real representation in Congress. I do think they get have some electoral college representation.
